Seamer Technician
Schedule: Monday–Friday, 7:00 PM – 3:30 AM (occasional weekends as needed)
Position Summary
The Seamer Technician is responsible for maintaining, adjusting, troubleshooting, repairing, and optimizing can seamer equipment, with a primary focus on Angelus-brand seamers used in food and beverage manufacturing. This role ensures seam integrity, minimizes downtime, supports efficient changeovers, and promotes safe, high-quality, and compliant operations across the packaging line.
Key Responsibilities
Seamer Operation & Maintenance
- Set up, start up, operate, monitor, troubleshoot, repair, and maintain Angelus can seamers (including 61H, 60L, and similar models)
- Perform seam teardowns (manual and seam scope), measurements, inspections, and evaluations using approved tools and methods
- Adjust and optimize first and second operation seams to meet quality and food safety standards
- Execute full changeovers for various can sizes, including diameter, height, and end specifications
Line & Equipment Support
- Provide technical support for fillers, conveyors, depalletizers, and basket loaders
- Perform routine adjustments to filler and seamer equipment to ensure optimal line performance
- Respond quickly to downtime events and troubleshoot production issues related to seaming operations
Preventive & Corrective Maintenance
- Perform preventive maintenance, inspections, rebuilds, and overhauls in accordance with OEM and plant standards
- Diagnose and resolve mechanical, pneumatic, hydraulic, and basic electrical issues
- Identify equipment wear patterns and recommend improvements or corrective actions
Documentation & Reporting
- Complete work orders, preventive maintenance logs, and seam teardown documentation
- Maintain accurate records of repairs, adjustments, and equipment performance
- Communicate recurring issues and improvement opportunities to maintenance and operations leadership
Training & Support
- Train and support operators on proper seamer operation and best practices
- Promote adherence to safety standards, quality expectations, and GMP compliance
- Serve as a subject matter expert for seaming operations across all shifts
Required Qualifications
- Minimum of 5 years of experience in seamer operation and maintenance
- Hands-on experience with Angelus or similar can seamers
- Strong mechanical aptitude with the ability to read schematics, blueprints, and technical manuals
- Working knowledge of mechanical, pneumatic, hydraulic, and basic electrical systems
- Experience performing seam inspections, teardowns, and precision adjustments
- Welding experience is a plus
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience in food, beverage, or canning manufacturing environments
- Familiarity with high-speed packaging lines and related equipment
- Experience using CMMS systems for maintenance tracking
- Flexibility to work nights, weekends, or on-call as needed
