The Providence Public School District (PPSD) seeks individuals interested in Dual Language and Bilingual positions for the 2026-2027 school year. By submitting your application to this posting, you will be pre-screened by our Human Resources team and have the opportunity to interview with school-based leaders and district hiring managers. Those who are selected as priority candidates will receive an early hiring contract, contingent on completion of licensure and background check requirements, and will be guaranteed a position in SY26-27. Candidates who receive an Early Hiring Contract must also apply to school-based positions for which they are interested and eligible once they are posted in early March.

Who We Are
- The Providence Public School District (PPSD) serves approximately 22,000 students attending our 37 schools. PPSD employs more than 3,200 professionals who work in and provide support to our schools, which include 21 elementary schools, 7 middle schools, 9 high schools and 2 public district charter schools. Of our employees, approximately 2,000 are educators, and more than 600 others directly support students and families in our schools.
- Our schools are diverse learning communities. Approximately 68% of our students are Latinx, 15% Black, 6.5% White, 4% Asian, 5.5% Multi-racial and 1% Native American. Approximately 31% of students are multilingual learners, and about 16% of students receive special education services. Approximately 55% of students come from homes where English is not the primary language spoken. Combined, our students and families speak 55 different languages and hail from 91 countries of origin.
The Rhode Island Right to Read Act was passed in July of 2019 and requires educators to exhibit either proficiency in or awareness of the knowledge and practices of the Science of Reading and Structured Literacy. Job Description
Under direction of the school principal and/or appropriate supervisor, teaches and instructs students in academic subject matter, social, emotional, behavioral, and educational skill areas.
- Plans and provides for appropriate learning experiences for students.
- Provides an atmosphere and environment conducive to the intellectual, physical, social and emotional development of individuals to ensure success for every student.
- Supervises students in a variety of school-related settings.
- Monitors and evaluates student outcomes.
- Communicates and interacts with students, parents, staff and community.
- Develops, selects and modifies instructional plans and materials to meet the needs of all students.
- Maintains appropriate records and follows required procedures and practices.
- Monitors appropriate use and care of equipment, materials and facilities.
Additionally, teachers will:
- become members of a professional learning community where purposeful collaboration, flexibility, innovation and shared decision making are encouraged
- participate in all district and school-based professional development inclusive of working with internal (coaches) and external (consultants) supports
- support and nurture the academic, social-emotional, and physical needs of all students

EDUCATION REQUIREMENTS:
Bachelor’s degree in applicable field of education from an accredited college or university.
RIDE Certification Requirements:
- Elem. KG-6 or Elem. 1-6 with Bilingual Dual Language - Spanish

- Elem. KG-6 or Elem. 1-6 with Any MS Content Area Ext. 5-8 with Bilingual Dual Language - Spanish
OR
- Any MS Content Area 5-8 with Bilingual Dual Language - Spanish
OR
- Any Secondary Content Area 7-12 with Any MS Content Area Ext. 5-8 with Bilingual Dual Language - Spanish
Qualifications:
- Fully-certified as described above in "RIDE requirements" or willingness to become fully certified including on an emergency basis if necessary (fully-certified strongly preferred).
- You must complete the new hire compliance training prior to your first day of employment.
- Selected candidate will be required to pass a pre-employment criminal history background check. Selected candidates cannot begin work until passing their background check.

DESCRIPTION OF DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Plan, prepare and deliver lesson plans and instructional materials that facilitate active and engaging learning that are aligned to the goals of Bilingual/Dual Language Education.
- Instruct and monitor students in the use of learning materials and equipment, using relevant technology to support and differentiate instruction in English and Spanish.
- Establish and communicate clear language and content objectives for all learning activities and provide appropriate feedback on assignments.
- Manage student behavior in the classroom by establishing and enforcing a warm, welcoming, and culturally relevant environment.
- Encourage and monitor the progress of individual students in English and Spanish and regularly use data to observe and evaluate student performance and development in both languages to adjust teaching strategies.
- Maintain and update accurate and complete records of students' progress and development in both languages.
- Communicate information regularly to students, colleagues, and families regarding student progress and student needs in the preferred language of the family.
- Provide a variety of learning materials and resources for use in educational activities to support all students in Spanish and English
- Actively participate in and contribute to department, school, district and parent meetings and professional development to build knowledge of pedagogy around teaching for biliteracy, bilingualism and sociocultural competence.
- Assign and grade classwork, homework, tests, and assignments according to state standards in English and Spanish according to the program model.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
