We serve approximately 22,000 students at 37 elementary, middle, and high schools. Approximately 55% of students come from homes where English is not the primary language spoken. REPORTS TO: Deputy Superintendent of Academics

In addition to the overall vision-setting and strategic planning for the Innovative Schools model, the Chief of Schools will focus on supporting principals' growth as instructional leaders through direct management and coaching in these unique schools. The Chief of Schools will drive and oversee all innovation and design related efforts within the district.
EDUCATION TRAINING AND EXPERIENCE:
- Master’s Degree or formal training in Educational Leadership; doctorate preferred;
- 8-10 years of relevant experience preferably in a public education turnaround distric
CERTIFICATE / LICENSE REQUIRED:
- Building Level Administrator Certification or Superintendent certification
DESCRIPTION OF DUTIES, RESPONSIBILITIES AND CURRICULAR LINKAGES:
Key Responsibilities:
- Serves as a key member of the Cabinet, contributing to the development and execution of district strategy aligned to the Superintendent’s vision.
- Provides direct supervision, coaching, and evaluation of Principal Supervisors to ensure high-quality support to school leaders.
- Establishes clear expectations and accountability systems for Principal Supervisors and principals to drive student outcomes.
- Strengthens leadership capacity across schools by ensuring effective coaching, professional learning, and performance management systems for school leaders.
- Ensures alignment between central office supports and school needs, streamlining systems to provide coherent, responsive service to schools.
- Promotes consistency in instructional expectations, operational effectiveness, and student experience across all schools.
- Leads and oversees school improvement planning and implementation in alignment with district priorities and turnaround efforts.
- Ensures the effective use of qualitative and quantitative data to inform school improvement, leadership decisions, and progress monitoring.
- Builds and sustains a districtwide culture of continuous improvement, innovation, and accountability.
- Collaborates with cross-functional district teams to identify and remove barriers to school success and innovation.
- Oversees the implementation of innovation and redesign strategies across school-based programs.
- Engages families, community stakeholders, and advisory groups as partners in school improvement efforts.
- Monitors and evaluates the effectiveness of school improvement initiatives and leadership practices.
- Manages departmental operations, including strategic planning, budgeting, staffing, and performance management.
- Serves as liaison to external partners, including the Rhode Island Department of Education and other agencies.
- Secures and manages funding to support school improvement and innovation initiatives.
- Performs other duties as assigned consistent with the responsibilities of the position.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS STANDARDS:
- Proven experience in leading effective teams and individuals, managing organizational change and initiating key innovations
- Advanced ability to set and meet goals and priorities, and work with colleagues to implement and drive results-oriented systems for teaching and learning
- Highly effective decision-making skills, organizational, planning, and administrative skills
- Alignment with mission, vision and core values of Providence Public Schools
- Exceptional communication ability, both written and oral
- Bilingual Preferred
