What are the responsibilities and job description for the Custodian position at Providence Englewood School Corp?
Background: Providence Englewood is a Charter School located in the Englewood neighborhood of Chicago. The school serves students in Kindergarten through 8th grade. We are part of the public education system, and enrollment is FREE. Our purpose is to prepare our students for a successful high school career leading to enrollment in college. We are seeking to hire an experienced Custodian who will focus on building upkeep. The ideal candidate will have a great eye for detail and must pass a drug screen and criminal background check.
Position: The position of Custodian reports to the Deputy Director of Operations and has primary responsibility for cleaning and maintaining the entire school.
Maintenance
The Custodian maintains a clean, orderly, and safe environment for the entire school building. Job tasks and responsibilities may include any and, all, but are not limited to, the following:
- Cleans and disinfects lavatories, mirrors, and replenishes supplies in student and faculty restrooms.
- Sweeps, mops, and waxes tiled floors and stairs; vacuums carpeted areas; cleans windows in the front office and school entrance areas.
- Collects and disposes trash from all offices, classrooms, cafeteria, and lounge areas. Disposes trash into outside dumpsters;
maintains cleanliness of the dumpster area; picks up trash from the outside lawn.
- Unlocks and prepares the school for the arrival of faculty and students.
- Locks the school after the departure of faculty and students.
- Removes snow from walkways during winter months.
- Reports damages to appropriate personnel regarding buildings, facilities, and safety equipment.
- Maintains an accurate inventory of maintenance supplies.
- Delivers shipments to various classrooms.
- Sets up classrooms/gymnasium for school events and activities.
- Supervises Saturday work suspension.
- Performs other duties as assigned by the Deputy Director of Operations and Principal.
Must be flexible
Hands on experience in school janitorial activities
Strong skills in cleaning school buildings and maintaining the surrounding area
Strong ability to lift heavy weights and maintain a cooperative working relationship with stakeholders
Strong ability to organize efficiently and work independently with minimum supervision
