Purchasing Specialist
We are seeking an experienced buyer to join our purchasing team. This is an individual contributor role focused on sourcing, purchasing, and order management. The buyer works closely with the purchasing team and coordinates with other departments. This is a self-directed position in a fast-paced, growing environment, and the buyer is expected to make decisions, solve problems, and manage priorities independently.
Responsibilities
- Use Excel and ERP to identify material shortages and place purchase orders to address them.
- Manage open orders end to end, tracking estimated time of arrival (ETA) and following up until materials are received.
- Coordinate with the production planning team to ensure materials are available to produce orders on the customer's timeline.
- Negotiate pricing and terms with vendors.
- Partner with the development team on sourcing: determine material requirements, check existing catalog availability, and source from vendors as needed.
- Respond to changing conditions, including order cancellations, accelerated customer timelines, and other last-minute adjustments.
What You'll Purchase The primary focus is ingredients, centered on organic fruit and vegetable powders along with a wide range of other powders and some liquids, including vitamins, minerals, botanicals, and extracts. The company maintains thousands of SKUs, so experience managing a large, active catalog is important. The role also includes purchasing select packaging components (bottles, lids, induction seals) and empty capsule shells.
Qualifications
- 5 years of purchasing or procurement experience, preferably in food, dietary supplements, or a similar manufacturing environment.
- Strong organizational skills and attention to detail, with the ability to adjust quickly as priorities change.
- Proven ability to negotiate pricing and terms and manage vendor relationships.
- Ability to work effectively on a team and coordinate activities across departments.
- Self-directed, with sound judgment and the ability to own outcomes with minimal oversight.
Technical Requirements
- Advanced Excel skills. A significant portion of this role is spreadsheet-based.
- Proficiency with AI tools, including the use of AI to build Excel tools and improve workflow efficiency.
- ERP experience required; Sage X3 or a comparable system strongly preferred.
Salary : $65,000 - $85,000
