Key Responsibilities
Clinical Care & Assessment:
- Conduct health screenings and assessments
- Provide first aid and evaluate students with illnesses or injuries
- Monitor vital signs and assess physiological responses
- Administer medications in compliance with Illinois School Code
- Follow strict safety protocols and maintain compliance with HIPAA/FERPA
- Collaborate with families, healthcare providers, and school staff
- Provide health education and ensure continuity of care
- Develop and implement Individualized Health Plans (IHPs), Asthma Action Plans, and Diabetes Care Plans
- Participate in IEP and 504 team meetings to support student needs
- Coordinate and conduct vision and hearing screenings per IDPH guidelines
- Lead medical response during emergencies using BLS and trauma-informed care
- Maintain accurate electronic health records in compliance with Illinois School Student Records Act
- Track immunizations and ensure compliance with state deadlines
- Monitor and report infectious diseases
- Maintain communication with local health departments
Licensure:
- Active Illinois Registered Nurse (RN) license
- Professional Educator License (PEL) with School Nurse Endorsement (preferred or willingness to obtain)
- Current CPR/AED (BLS) certification
- IDPH Vision and Hearing Technician certification (or ability to obtain within one year)
- Experience in pediatrics, emergency care, or public health preferred
- Ability to manage chronic conditions such as diabetes and severe allergies
- Strong clinical assessment and documentation skills
- Proficiency in Electronic Medical Records (EMR) systems
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
- Familiarity with HIPAA, FERPA, and Illinois school health regulations
