What are the responsibilities and job description for the Mechanical Design Engineer position at Protouch Staffing?
About The Job
What to Expect
We are a startup developing cutting-edge power electronics for the modern grid. Our mission is to eliminate bottlenecks in electricity generation and consumption through scalable, innovative, and cost-efficient hardware solutions - enabling the rapid electrification of everything.
Our initial focus is on building next-generation power converters (inverters & rectifiers) for large-scale renewables, storage, and industrial loads. The environment is highly collaborative, technical, and fast-moving, with a strong emphasis on first-principles engineering and hands-on problem solving.
Job Overview
As a Mechanical Design Engineer, you will design and develop high-volume, shipping-container-scale industrial enclosures for power conversion systems. You will work across CAD modeling, analysis, prototyping, and testing, collaborating closely with mechanical, electrical, test, manufacturing engineers, and external suppliers. You will own your designs from concept through high-volume production.

Responsibilities
- Design mass-manufacturable parts and assemblies for large industrial enclosures, including plastics, insulators, seals, and structural joints (welded, riveted, bolted, adhesive)
- Own components and assemblies throughout the full product lifecycle - concept to production
- Apply first-principles engineering and analysis (structural, tolerance, etc.)
- Create 3D models and 2D drawings using CAD software (CATIA V6/3DX is a plus)
- Conduct hands-on prototyping, testing, and validation
- Collaborate with cross-functional engineering teams and external suppliers
Must-Have
- Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering, Mechatronics, or related field
- 5 years of experience designing outdoor-rated industrial enclosures for electromechanical systems
- 5 years of experience with 3D CAD (CATIA V6/3DX preferred but not mandatory)
- Strong engineering fundamentals and basic electronics understanding
- Experience with high-volume manufacturing processes: sheet metal bending, stamping, injection molding, die casting, extrusion, fastening, riveting, welding, dispensing
- Knowledge of ingress-protection standards and sealing methods
- Excellent communication and teamwork skills
- Ability to work independently and take ownership
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills
- Experience with surface treatments, paints, and coatings
- Experience with composites
- Background working with PCBAs, connectors, fuses, or electronic components
- Experience with FEA, CFD, or multi-physics modeling tools (Ansys, MATLAB, Python, Simulink, StarCCM, etc.)
- Experience with GD&T and tolerance analysis
- Experience with DFMEA, reliability testing, and validation
- Experience with PLM systems and controlled release processes
- Exposure to medium-voltage (≈34.5kV) or grid-related equipment such as switchgear, converters, breakers, insulation materials
