Job Roles and Responsibilities
- Prepare detailed cost estimates for heavy civil construction projects.
- Review contract documents, plans, specifications, and bid requirements.
- Perform quantity takeoffs and develop complete project scopes.
- Analyze project risks, labor, equipment, materials, and subcontractor costs.
- Prepare competitive bids that align with project specifications.
- Collaborate with Project Managers and Project Engineers during preconstruction and project turnover.
- Track submitted bids and evaluate bid results for continuous improvement.
- Mentor Project Engineers and assist with estimating best practices.
- Participate in project planning and support smooth transition from estimating to construction.
- Maintain accurate estimating records and documentation.
- Prior estimating experience in heavy civil construction.
- Field experience in civil construction preferred.
- Strong ability to interpret contracts, plans, specifications, and construction documents.
- Experience estimating wastewater treatment plants, water treatment facilities, underground utilities, structural concrete, bridges, pump stations, or DOT infrastructure projects.
- Strong quantity takeoff and cost estimating skills.
- Excellent analytical, organizational, and communication skills.
- Experience mentoring junior engineers or estimators is preferred.
- Valid driver's license preferred.
- Civil Engineering or Construction Management education is a plus.
