Key Responsibilities
- Provide surgical first assisting support during operative procedures.
- Assist surgeons with:
- Ophthalmology cases including cataracts, glaucoma, corneal surgery, vitrectomy, and retinal detachment.
- Orthopedic procedures including carpal tunnel, trigger finger, small joint fusions, and ORIF distal radius.
- General, breast, and plastic surgery procedures including mastectomy and breast biopsy.
- Maintain sterile technique and ensure patient safety throughout surgical procedures.
- Assist with specialized surgical equipment, including Zeiss microscopes for ophthalmology cases.
- Collaborate with surgeons, anesthesia providers, nurses, and operating room staff.
- Participate in weekday, weekend, and holiday call rotations.
- Minimum 2 years of Surgical First Assistant experience preferred.
- Certified Surgical First Assist (CSFA) certification required through one of the following:
- National Board of Surgical Technology and Surgical Assisting (NBSTSA)
- American Board of Surgical Assistants (ABSA)
- National Commission for the Certification of Surgical Assistants (NCCSA)
- Current BLS certification.
- Experience with ophthalmology, orthopedic, and general surgery cases preferred.
- Strong knowledge of sterile technique, surgical procedures, and operating room workflows.
- Ability to participate in call requirements:
- Weekday call until midnight.
- Weekend call rotation (Saturday/Sunday 6:30 AM-Midnight).
- Holiday call as required.
- Work with a highly respected Magnet-designated hospital known for quality patient care.
- Gain valuable experience at a 636-bed Level III Trauma Center, Level III NICU, and Primary Stroke Center.
- Handle a diverse surgical case mix including ophthalmology, orthopedics, general surgery, plastics, and breast procedures.
- Enjoy a consistent day shift schedule with 4x9-hour shifts and hospital-provided surgical scrubs.
- Collaborate with experienced surgeons, nurses, and surgical teams in a supportive environment.
