CNC Machinist - III

Job Description and Responsibilities

Programming, setup, and operation of the Haas VF-2SS (5-axis) to machine mold cores, cavities, inserts, electrodes, and workholding to produce parts that meet the quality standards and specifications of our company.

• Utilize CAM toolpath generation from CAD models. We run Fusion 360 (proficiency in another major CAM package is welcome; we can be flexible for the right machinist)
• Operate tight tolerances on contoured mold geometry, inspected with standard metrology tools: in-machine probe system, mics, indicators, gauge pins, height gauge
• Execute bench work: polishing, fitting, deburring, sandblasting, and assembly of mold components
• Injection molding operation: loading and unloading molds, initiating and monitoring runs, perform basic parameter adjustments
• Perform routine machine maintenance and organized tooling, calibrations, offsets, and setup documentation
• Provide design-for-manufacturability feedback on mold and part designs
• Execute mold projects from start to finish, from CAD model to first-shot approval, with minimal direction
• Inspect finished parts for quality assurance and conformance
• Develop machining strategies, speeds/feeds, and workholding for new tooling
• Develop and implement standardized shop systems, including tool libraries, setup documentation, and maintenance schedules
• Mentor and train new machinists as the team grows

Requirements

• High school diploma or GED 5 years of CNC machining including proven mold-making or tool & die experience
• Self-sufficient CAM programming on complex 3D surfacing work (Fusion 360 CAD/CAM)
• Proficient knowledge of CNC machine operations including its setup, maintenance, troubleshooting, and calibration
• 4th/5th-axis experience (trunnion or rotary) strongly preferred
• Experience in machining tight-tolerance parts
• Ability to read and accurately interpret GD&T-dimensioned prints and inspect them
• Strong mathematical skills required for calculating dimensions, tolerances, etc.
• Demonstrates ability to collaborate with team members and contribute to the successful completion of shared tasks and projects
• Demonstrates strong problem solving skills
• Excellent time management and prioritization skills
• U.S. person status (U.S. citizen or lawful permanent resident), required for access to ITAR-controlled hardware and technical data

Additional Desired Qualifications

• Mold or tooling experience strongly preferred and trainable for the right candidate
• Injection molding process exposure a plus (Mold texturing, hot runner, or mold repair experience)
• Comfortable working independently and collaboratively within a small team and work environment
• Language Skills: English Preferred

Physical Requirements & Work Environment

• Must be able to lift up to 50 lbs when necessary and stand for at least 8 hours per day
• Must be able to operate and engage in various movements including, but not limited to, reaching, handling, lifting, lowering, and kneeling.
• Work near loud machinery and shop chemicals (solvents, potting compounds, solder with fume extraction); PPE provided

Pay: $35.00 - $45.00 per hour
