What are the responsibilities and job description for the Production Operator position at Protective Industrial Polymers?
POSITION SUMMARY:
This position is responsible for packaging bulk liquid industrial coatings into final containers (cans, pails, drums, IBC totes), ensuring safe, accurate, and quality-compliant operations. The role also provides backup support for batch production of polymer coatings and colorants, as well as order fulfillment activities, including shipping and receiving.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES:
- Package bulk liquid polymer coatings into cans, pails, drums, and IBC totes, following all safety and quality procedures
- Operate, monitor, and maintain filling, dispensing, and labeling equipment
- Perform basic equipment setup, changeovers, and routine cleaning/maintenance of packaging equipment
- Verify product, batch numbers, and packaging specifications; perform in-process quality checks
- Safely handle raw materials and finished goods; stage and move products as needed, including use of forklifts and pallet jacks
- Complete production, inventory, and shipping documentation accurately
- Cross-train to assist with batch production and order fulfillment as needed
- Maintain a clean, organized, and safe work environment
- Perform other duties as assigned
ORDER FULFILLMENT SUPPORT (Backup)
- Pick, stage, palletize, and ship finished goods accurately
- Receive, inspect, and store inbound raw materials and finished goods
- Verify received quantities against purchase orders; report discrepancies or damaged goods
- Maintain warehouse organization
- Operate forklifts and pallet jacks safely
BATCH PRODUCTION SUPPORT (Backup)
- Measure and mix raw materials according to established formulations
- Monitor batch processes, collect samples, and perform quality checks
- Adjust batches under direction to meet quality specifications
- Transfer finished product to storage or packaging areas
- Clean and maintain mixing equipment and work areas between batches

QUALIFICATIONS:
- High school diploma or GED required; experience in production, manufacturing, or warehouse environments preferred
- Ability to follow instructions, read labels, and perform basic calculations
- Mechanical aptitude and ability to learn operation of production equipment
- Ability to safely handle chemicals and follow safety procedures
- Able to lift 50 lbs regularly and perform repetitive tasks in an industrial environment
- Forklift or material handling experience preferred, or willingness to train
WORK ENVIRONMENT:
- Exposure to fumes, airborne particles, and toxic or caustic chemicals
- Occasional exposure to working near mechanical parts
- Noise level is usually moderate; typical physical demands of industrial production

Pay: $21.00 - $22.00 per hour
