About Us
Protecnium is an international consulting firm specializing in engineering and technical services. We are currently seeking a Marine Party Chief Surveyor to join our team for a major civil works project in Norfolk, Virginia, USA.
Location: Norfolk, Virginia, United States (on-site)
Schedule: Monday to Friday – 12-hour shifts (some Saturdays may be required)
Duration:
Initially 12 months, with the possibility of extension depending on project progress. Upon completion, Protecnium will seek to provide continuity in other projects.
Role Overview
The Marine Party Chief Surveyor will be responsible for overseeing both office and field surveying activities with a focus on high-precision setting out and verification of works. This role will involve stakeout, monitoring, data collection, and the use of specialized surveying software and instruments. The successful candidate will ensure accurate execution of survey tasks to support heavy civil and marine construction operations.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead and perform surveying tasks for heavy civil works (marine works experience highly valued).
- Conduct high-precision setting out and verification of construction works.
- Perform stakeout points, monitoring, leveling, and data collection on site.
- Operate and maintain surveying instruments, including Total Station, Level, and GPS equipment.
- Utilize specific surveying software for data processing and reporting.
- Inspect and supervise jobsite operations frequently to ensure compliance and accuracy.
- Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams, subcontractors, and suppliers.
- Maintain accurate survey documentation and reports.
- Ensure adherence to health, safety, and environmental standards.
Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in Surveying, Civil Engineering, Geomatics, or related field.
- Minimum 5 years of professional experience in surveying.
- Proven experience in heavy civil works (marine surveying is a strong advantage).
- Proficiency with Total Station, Level, GPS, and relevant survey software.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
- Ability to work both in the office and on-site under demanding conditions.
- Physical ability to access all areas of the jobsite, lift up to 50 pounds, work in confined spaces, and at heights.
- English proficiency at B2 level or higher (CEFR standard).
- Valid permit to work in the United States.
