Position Summary

The Test Engineer provides hands-on mechanical, electrical, and systems testing support for new product development. This role involves building prototypes, developing test fixtures, executing mechanical and electromechanical tests, and troubleshooting embedded motorized systems.

Working under the guidance of senior engineers, the Test Engineer collaborates with mechanical, electrical, software, firmware, and quality engineering teams to evaluate product performance, investigate failures, document test results, and support root cause analysis (RCA) and reliability initiatives.

The position offers opportunities to develop skills in mechanical design, electrical testing, embedded systems, automated test scripting, and fixture and tooling development.

Key Responsibilities

Mechanical Testing and Prototyping

  • Build, modify, and repair prototype mechanisms, test fixtures, and engineering test setups.
  • Read engineering drawings and CAD models and perform minor updates to parts and fixtures using SolidWorks or similar CAD software.
  • Take dimensional measurements using calipers, gauges, and other measurement tools.
  • Execute mechanical and electromechanical test plans, including cycling, torque, acoustic, and lifecycle testing.
  • Use hand tools and shop equipment to fabricate and modify prototypes and test fixtures, including 3D printers, lathes, milling machines, and basic welding equipment.

Electrical Testing and Embedded Systems

  • Perform basic electrical design and modifications under senior engineering guidance, including test harnesses, interface boards, breakout boards, and minor schematic or PCB layout changes.
  • Use multimeters, oscilloscopes, torque gauges, and data acquisition (DAQ) equipment to collect and evaluate test data.
  • Troubleshoot embedded systems involving motors, sensors, printed circuit boards (PCBs), firmware, software, and wireless communications.
  • Investigate product and test equipment issues, identify potential causes, and coordinate with the appropriate engineering teams.
  • Develop automated test scripts using Python or another programming language.

Failure Analysis and Quality

  • Support root cause analysis (RCA), failure analysis, Failure Mode and Effects Analysis (FMEA), and reliability testing.
  • Investigate prototype, production, and field-return units by reproducing failures, collecting data, and documenting findings.
  • Record, track, and report test results, defects, and corrective actions using defect-tracking tools such as Jira.
  • Help establish test methods, acceptance criteria, and pass/fail requirements in collaboration with engineering and quality teams.
  • Generate and maintain bills of materials (BOMs) for prototype and test hardware.

Documentation and Cross-Functional Collaboration

  • Prepare clear technical reports, test documentation, and project updates for engineering teams and senior leadership.
  • Collaborate with mechanical, electrical, software, firmware, and quality engineers to support product development and validation.
  • Participate in design reviews, quality meetings, and project updates.
  • Assist technicians and senior engineers with test setup, troubleshooting, and validation activities.
  • Support sourcing of prototype components and test hardware.
  • Participate in technical training and continuous improvement initiatives.

Additional Requirements
