About the Role
We are seeking a detail-oriented and professional Medical Collector to join our team. The ideal candidate will be responsible for following up on outstanding patient accounts, resolving unpaid claims, and ensuring timely reimbursement from insurance companies and patients. This role is essential to maintaining healthy cash flow and delivering a positive patient financial experience.
Key Responsibilities
- Review and manage aging reports to identify overdue balances.
- Contact patients and/or insurance companies regarding outstanding payments.
- Investigate and resolve denied or underpaid claims.
- Set up and monitor patient payment plans in accordance with company policies.
- Document all communications and follow-up actions in the billing system.
- Maintain compliance with HIPAA and the Fair Debt Collection Practices Act (FDCPA).
- Collaborate with billing, coding, and administrative teams to resolve account discrepancies.
- Escalate accounts to third-party collections when appropriate.
Qualifications
- High school diploma or equivalent required; associate degree in healthcare administration or related field preferred.
- 1–3 years of experience in medical collections, medical billing, or healthcare revenue cycle preferred.
- Working knowledge of insurance billing, claim submission, and EOBs (Explanation of Benefits).
- Strong communication and negotiation skills.
- Ability to maintain professionalism and empathy during patient interactions.
- Proficiency in medical billing software and Microsoft Office applications.
