Role Summary / Purpose:
The Facilities Maintenance Planner is responsible for planning, scheduling, and coordinating maintenance tasks to ensure safe, efficient, and timely execution of work. This role supports manufacturing operations by improving technician productivity, ensuring job readiness, and enhancing equipment reliability through effective work order management, material coordination, and collaboration with cross-functional teams.
Essential Responsibilities:
- Develop clear and detailed job plans for maintenance tasks, including estimated labor hours, materials, tools, permits, and safety requirements.
- Scope maintenance jobs in the field to confirm work requirements and identify special skills or external services needed (e.g., rigging, welding, scaffolding, machining).
- Troubleshoot issues with facility and process equipment in coordination with technicians and engineers to identify root causes and determine corrective actions.
- Review and prioritize incoming maintenance requests, convert them into planned work orders, and schedule activities based on resource availability and production needs.
- Coordinate with Maintenance Supervisors, Technicians, and Production teams to minimize equipment downtime and improve workflow efficiency.
- Prepare and attach technical documentation to job plans, such as manufacturer manuals, drawings, P&IDs, and schematics.
- Requisition parts, tools, and services to support scheduled maintenance and ensure work orders are fully kitted prior to execution.
- Ensure all maintenance activities follow safety standards and support regulatory and internal compliance.
- Monitor and update the CMMS to ensure accuracy of job plans, work order status, material usage, and job histories.
- Participate in continuous improvement efforts by identifying opportunities to optimize preventive maintenance and reduce unplanned downtime.
- Perform periodic facility inspections to proactively identify and document maintenance needs.
- Provide input and support for shutdown planning, asset tracking, and capital project coordination as required.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
Qualifications:
- High school diploma or GED required; associate degree or technical certification in a mechanical, electrical, or industrial field preferred.
- Minimum of 3 years of industrial maintenance experience and at least 2 years of maintenance planning experience, preferably in a manufacturing environment.
- Strong understanding of mechanical, electrical, pneumatic, and hydraulic systems.
- Proficient in reading and interpreting blueprints, P&IDs, loop diagrams, and technical documentation.
- Experience with CMMS software for planning, scheduling, and documentation of maintenance activities.
- Excellent communication, organizational, and teamwork skills.
- Strong attention to detail and commitment to safety and quality.
- Basic proficiency in Microsoft Office (Excel, Word, Outlook) and digital tools.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Experience with reliability-centered maintenance (RCM) or other structured maintenance methodologies.
- Prior involvement in equipment installations, capital projects, or shutdown/turnaround planning.
- Working knowledge of maintenance metrics, root cause analysis (RCA), and continuous improvement practices.
