Market Maintenance Technician

Property Management Jobs
Boston, MA Full Time
POSTED ON 9/15/2026
AVAILABLE BEFORE 10/14/2026
What You'll Actually Do

Metromark Apartments in Jamaica Plain keeps you moving. On a typical day, you're working through a queue of resident maintenance requests: an appliance acting up, a smoke detector that needs installing, a light fixture coming down. Then a flooded unit calls and everything reshuffles. That rhythm, planned work interrupted by real urgency, is just part of the job, and the right person handles both without losing composure.

Beyond reactive repairs, you'll handle the cosmetic side of the building too. Painting, screen swaps, window replacements, door hardware, tiles, handrails. These aren't glamorous tasks, but they're the ones residents notice. A well-kept property holds its occupancy, and your attention to the small stuff directly contributes to that. You'll also coordinate with outside contractors and vendors when the scope goes beyond your tools, tracking paperwork and invoices along the way so nothing falls through the cracks.

The schedule is Monday through Friday, 8:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., with an on-call rotation for after-hours emergencies. That on-call piece is worth taking seriously when you're considering this role. It doesn't dominate your life, but it does require you to be reachable and ready when something urgent comes up.

What You Bring

  • At least six months of hands-on trade or building maintenance experience
  • Working knowledge of electrical and mechanical systems
  • Comfort making repairs to doors, locks, tiles, handrails, and similar building components
  • An eye for safety concerns and a habit of flagging them proactively
  • Ability to manage contractor interactions and keep basic records organized
  • Specialized trade background in plumbing, electrical, HVAC, or roofing is a genuine advantage, not just a nice-to-have

What separates the candidates who thrive in a role like this from the ones who struggle: it's usually temperament more than technical skill. Residents notice how you show up at their door just as much as whether you fixed the problem. Someone who communicates clearly, stays calm under pressure, and takes visible pride in the spaces they maintain tends to build real trust with both the property team and the people living there.

The Company Behind the Role

John M. Corcoran and Company has been operating in New England real estate since 1951. For a firm that size, they've held onto a notably team-oriented culture, the kind where people tend to stay for years rather than treat it as a stepping stone. Compensation for this position runs from $26.50 to $29.50 per hour depending on experience, and the role comes with a $2,500 sign-on bonus. Benefits include medical, dental, vision, and life insurance, paid time off with holidays, and a 401(k) with a company match.

For someone early in a maintenance career, this is a solid environment to build breadth. Working across appliance repair, cosmetic updates, and light mechanical systems at a residential property gives you exposure to the full scope of a make-ready cycle and day-to-day operations. That kind of experience, especially paired with any specialized trade training, positions you well to move toward a lead technician or maintenance supervisor role over time.
