The Apartment Gallery is seeking an experienced Controller to lead our accounting department across a growing multifamily portfolio. Reporting to the Director of Asset Management, this role oversees financial close, internal controls, tax coordination, and banking relationships while supervising a team of Senior Accountants, Staff Accountants, and AP Clerks.
We are looking for a bachelor's degree in accounting (CPA preferred), 7 years of progressive accounting experience with supervisory responsibility, and advanced Excel skills (Yardi a plus). Experience managing accounting across multiple property entities, banks and bank accounts is strongly preferred.
Requirements:

- 7 years progressive accounting experience including supervisory responsibilities.
- Thorough knowledge of accounting theory and internal control practices
- Experience managing monthly, quarterly, and year-end closing and reporting processes.
- Advanced Excel and accounting software proficiency (Yardi experience preferred).
- Strong analytical, communication, leadership, supervisory, and organizational skills.
Responsibilities:
- Supervise, direct, and develop Senior Accountants, Staff Accountants and Accounts Payable Clerks.
- Provide leadership and operational oversight of the Accounting Department, including Accounts Payable, General Ledger, Treasury Management, and related functions.
- Drive continuous improvement by leveraging technology and best practices to enhance the efficiency and accuracy of the accounting function.
- Ensure accuracy, completeness and integrity of financial books and records.
- Develop, maintain, and enforce accounting policies, processes and procedures balancing efficiency with sound internal controls.
- Direct and oversee the monthly, quarterly, and annual financial close, ensuring timely and accurate financial statements.
- Coordinate the preparation of federal, state, and local business entity tax returns with external accounting firm.
- Partner with Asset Management, Property Management, and leadership team members to identify significant variances, trends, and issues.
- Support due diligence and onboarding for acquisitions, dispositions or refinancing when needed.
- Coordinate the accounting aspects of the annual budgeting process for property operating budgets.
- Maintain banking relationships with various financial institutions.
- Prepare lender, investor, and other external financial reporting as needed.
- Oversee sales/use tax, personal property tax, and other required filings.
- Serve as backup for payroll processing to ensure business continuity.
