About the Role
We're seeking a skilled and detail-oriented Electrical Engineer to provide critical engineering support to our active manufacturing facility in Birmingham, Alabama. This role combines hands-on troubleshooting with strategic technical leadership. You'll be the go-to electrical expert keeping our production running smoothly while also contributing to the development of next-generation oxygen concentrator products & designs. As our primary electrical liaison with external testing agencies and vendors, you'll also help play a pivotal role in ensuring our life-saving medical devices meet the highest standards of quality and regulatory compliance. What You'll Do
Manufacturing & Production Support
- Provide electrical engineering expertise to ongoing manufacturing operations, ensuring smooth production flow
- Test and troubleshoot electrical issues arising during the manufacturing process with urgency and precision
- Support and maintain active products involving PLCs (Programmable Logic Controllers) and HMIs (Human-Machine Interfaces)
- Implement electrical solutions that minimize downtime and optimize production efficiency
- Collaborate with production teams to identify and resolve electrical challenges in real-time
External Relations & Compliance
- Serve as the primary electrical interface for communications with outside testing agencies (UL, CSA, FDA labs, etc.)
- Manage vendor relationships for electrical components, testing services, and technical support
- Ensure all electrical systems and documentation meet regulatory requirements and industry standards
- Coordinate electrical testing protocols and certification processes
Product Development & Innovation
- Assist in the design and development of new oxygen concentrator products from concept through production
- Contribute electrical design expertise to cross-functional product development teams
- Evaluate and specify electrical components, circuit designs, and control systems
- Support prototyping, validation testing, and design verification activities
Documentation & Reporting
- Prepare clear, comprehensive technical reports and documentation using Microsoft Office Suite
- Maintain accurate records of test results, troubleshooting activities, and design modifications
- Create and update electrical schematics, wiring diagrams, and technical specifications
- Document lessons learned and best practices for knowledge sharing
What We're Looking For
Required:
- Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering or related engineering field
- Minimum of 4 years of experience in electrical engineering, preferably in a manufacturing environment
- Strong technical knowledge of electrical systems, circuits, and control systems
- Experience with PLCs and HMIs (Allen-Bradley, Siemens, or similar platforms)
- Proficient verbal and written communication skills
- Solid analytical and problem-solving abilities
- Understanding of regulatory requirements for electrical systems (UL, CSA, IEC, FDA)
- Project management capabilities and ability to coordinate multiple initiatives
Preferred:
- Familiarity with SolidWorks Electrical or other 3D CAD/electrical design programs
- Experience in medical device or regulated manufacturing environments
- Knowledge of risk evaluation and control methodologies (FMEA, FTA)
- Background with ISO 13485, ISO 9001, or other quality management systems
- Financial and budgeting skills for component sourcing and cost analysis
- Experience interfacing with certification bodies and testing laboratories

Work Environment
This is an on-site position based in Birmingham, Alabama. You'll work primarily in our professional office and engineering lab environment, with frequent time on the manufacturing floor providing hands-on support to production teams.
Physical Requirements:
- Ability to lift and move up to 35 lbs regularly, occasionally up to 60 lbs
- Comfortable working in office, lab, and active manufacturing environments
- Regular use of computers, CAD/ERP software, test equipment, oscilloscopes, multimeters, and diagnostic tools
- Occasionally required to climb, stoop, kneel, or work in tight spaces to troubleshoot equipment

Location Clarification
