What are the responsibilities and job description for the Product Manager Non-Standard Auto Insurance position at Pronto Insurance?
Location: Brownsville, TX (position could be remote for the right candidate)
Reports To: Vice President of Underwriting and Product
We are seeking an experienced Product Manager to lead the development, optimization, and regulatory management of non-standard auto insurance products in the Texas market. This role is responsible for balancing profitability, regulatory compliance, customer outcomes, and competitive positioning in a highly regulated and data-driven environment.
The ideal candidate brings a strong understanding of non-standard auto insurance, Texas-specific regulations, underwriting strategy, and cross-functional collaboration.
Own the end-to-end lifecycle of non-standard auto insurance products in Texas, including design, pricing strategy, coverage structure, and eligibility rules.
Identify market opportunities through competitive analysis, performance data, customer insights, and regulatory changes.
Define product roadmaps and prioritize initiatives aligned with business goals and loss ratio targets.
Ensure all products comply with Texas Department of Insurance (TDI) requirements, including filings, forms, rates, endorsements, and rule changes.
Ensure rate, rule and form filings are timely and accurate
Monitor regulatory developments that impact non-standard auto carriers and proactively recommend product adjustments.
Work closely with underwriting, actuarial, and data analytics teams to:
Refine risk segmentation and rating plans
Improve loss performance and profitability
Support new pricing models and coverage enhancements
Translate actuarial insights into clear product definitions and business requirements.
Manage a team consisting of a data analyst and underwriters
Act as the product liaison between underwriting, claims, operations, technology, compliance, marketing, and distribution partners.
Partner with technology teams to ensure product requirements are accurately implemented in policy administration systems.
Support go-to-market strategies with sales and marketing, including agent communications and training materials.
Track key product KPIs including loss ratio, retention, growth, and conversion.
Analyze product performance and recommend corrective actions or enhancements.
Lead post-launch reviews and continuous improvement initiatives.
Bachelor’s degree in Business, Finance, Insurance, or a related field (or equivalent experience).
5 years of experience in insurance product management, underwriting, or actuarial roles.
Direct experience with non-standard auto insurance products.
Strong knowledge of Texas auto insurance regulations and TDI filing processes.
Proven ability to work cross-functionally and influence stakeholders without direct authority.
Strong analytical, communication, and documentation skills.
Ability to travel 10-25% of the year if not located in Brownsville
CPCU, ARM, or similar insurance designation.
Experience working at a non-standard or specialty auto carrier.
Familiarity with policy administration and rating systems.
Experience supporting agent or MGA distribution models.
