Responsibilities
- Conduct thorough patient assessments, including mental status examinations and vital signs, to inform individualized care plans.
- Administer medications safely, including psychotropic drugs and injections, adhering to prescribed protocols and documentation standards.
- Monitor patients for acute behavioral changes or adverse reactions, implementing appropriate interventions promptly.
- Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams to develop and update treatment plans aligned with patient needs and recovery goals.
- Provide education to patients and families about mental health conditions, medication regimens, and coping strategies.
- Maintain accurate medical documentation within electronic health record (EHR) systems such as Epic or Cerner, ensuring compliance with HIPAA regulations.
- Assist with crisis intervention and de-escalation techniques in emergency situations involving behavioral health crises.
- Support discharge planning by coordinating follow-up care, community resources, and medication management.
- Ensure infection control practices are strictly followed during all patient interactions.
- Participate in ongoing training related to trauma-informed care, substance abuse treatment, or other specialized psychiatric services.
Skills
- Proven experience working with individuals experiencing mental health disorders in inpatient or outpatient settings.
- Proficiency with electronic health records (EHR) systems such as Epic or Cerner for documentation and order entry.
- Strong knowledge of psychiatric medications, including psychotropic agents and injection administration techniques.
- Familiarity with crisis intervention protocols and behavioral health de-escalation methods.
- Ability to perform comprehensive patient assessments, including mental status exams and physiological measurements.
- Knowledge of infection control procedures specific to psychiatric environments.
