Job Summary

We are seeking a dedicated and versatile Travel Registered Nurse (RN) specializing in psychiatric care to join our dynamic healthcare team. This role involves providing specialized mental health nursing services across various inpatient and outpatient settings, including psychiatric units, community clinics, and long-term care facilities. Responsibilities

• Conduct thorough patient assessments, including mental status examinations and vital signs, to inform individualized care plans.
• Administer medications safely, including psychotropic drugs and injections, adhering to prescribed protocols and documentation standards.
• Monitor patients for acute behavioral changes or adverse reactions, implementing appropriate interventions promptly.
• Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams to develop and update treatment plans aligned with patient needs and recovery goals.
• Provide education to patients and families about mental health conditions, medication regimens, and coping strategies.
• Maintain accurate medical documentation within electronic health record (EHR) systems such as Epic or Cerner, ensuring compliance with HIPAA regulations.
• Assist with crisis intervention and de-escalation techniques in emergency situations involving behavioral health crises.
• Support discharge planning by coordinating follow-up care, community resources, and medication management.
• Ensure infection control practices are strictly followed during all patient interactions.
• Participate in ongoing training related to trauma-informed care, substance abuse treatment, or other specialized psychiatric services.

Skills

• Proven experience working with individuals experiencing mental health disorders in inpatient or outpatient settings.
• Proficiency with electronic health records (EHR) systems such as Epic or Cerner for documentation and order entry.
• Strong knowledge of psychiatric medications, including psychotropic agents and injection administration techniques.
• Familiarity with crisis intervention protocols and behavioral health de-escalation methods.
• Ability to perform comprehensive patient assessments, including mental status exams and physiological measurements.
• Knowledge of infection control procedures specific to psychiatric environments.
• Excellent communication skills for effective collaboration with healthcare teams and patient education.
• Ability to adapt quickly to diverse clinical environments while maintaining high standards of patient care.
• Basic life support (BLS) certification; additional certifications such as CPR or crisis prevention training are preferred.
• Understanding of confidentiality laws such as HIPAA and best practices for medical documentation.
