Job Summary
We are seeking a dedicated and experienced Travel Registered Nurse (RN) specializing in Mother/Baby care to join our dynamic healthcare team. This role involves providing exceptional nursing care to postpartum mothers and their newborns during night shifts, ensuring patient safety, comfort, and recovery. Duties
- Deliver direct nursing care to postpartum mothers and neonates, including assessments, vital sign monitoring, and documentation.
- Administer medications and treatments accurately, including IV infusions and suturing when necessary.
- Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams to develop and implement individualized care plans aligned with hospital protocols.
- Monitor for signs of complications such as hemorrhage or neonatal distress, intervening promptly as required.
- Maintain aseptic techniques during procedures such as catheterization, phlebotomy, and specimen collection.
- Educate patients on postpartum care, breastfeeding, neonatal safety, and discharge instructions.
- Document all patient interactions thoroughly within electronic health records (EHR/Epic/Cerner systems).
- Ensure compliance with HIPAA regulations and hospital policies regarding patient privacy and safety.
- Participate in shift handovers, quality improvement initiatives, and emergency response procedures.
Skills
- Proven experience working in maternal/baby units or neonatal intensive care units (NICU), with Level I or Level II trauma center experience preferred.
- Proficiency with EHR systems such as Epic, Cerner, or Athenahealth; familiarity with medical documentation standards.
- Strong knowledge of obstetric and neonatal physiology, including vital signs assessment and acute pain management.
- Skilled in performing procedures such as IV insertion, suturing, tube feeding management, and ventilator support.
- Ability to work effectively in high-pressure environments requiring critical care response skills.
- Excellent communication skills for patient education and interdisciplinary collaboration.
- Knowledge of infection control practices and aseptic techniques essential for neonatal safety.
- Familiarity with medical terminology related to obstetrics, neonatology, pharmacology, and ICD coding standards.
