Responsibilities
- Conduct thorough patient assessments, including vital signs, physical examinations, and medical history documentation using EMR/EHR systems.
- Provide emergency interventions such as airway management, IV insertion, suturing, and aseptic techniques with precision.
- Administer medications safely, including pain management, antibiotics for infectious diseases, and other emergency drugs.
- Support complex procedures like cardiac catheterization, dialysis access management, and trauma medicine protocols.
- Collaborate with physicians and specialists in areas such as ophthalmology, geriatrics, pediatrics, and behavioral health to deliver specialized care.
- Manage acute pain cases and participate in trauma response efforts within Level I or Level II trauma center environments.
- Ensure compliance with HIPAA regulations and maintain accurate medical records throughout patient care episodes.
- Assist in discharge planning and patient education for post-emergency care or ongoing treatment needs.
- Maintain proficiency in EMR/EHR systems such as Cerner or Athenahealth for documentation and order entry.
- Demonstrate knowledge of infection control practices and sterile processing during procedures.
Qualifications
- Valid RN license with current state licensure; additional certifications such as BLS (Basic Life Support), ACLS (Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support), PALS (Pediatric Advanced Life Support), or TNCC (Trauma Nursing Core Course) preferred.
- Minimum of two years of emergency room experience in hospital or urgent care settings; experience working within Level I or Level II trauma centers highly desirable.
- Demonstrated proficiency in critical care procedures including ventilator management, tube feeding, NG tube placement, and laboratory specimen collection.
- Familiarity with EMR/EHR systems such as Cerner or Epic; experience with ICD-10 coding is advantageous.
- Strong clinical skills across diverse specialties including infectious disease care, cardiology interventions like catheterization, neurocritical care, and geriatrics.
- Ability to adapt quickly to new environments while maintaining high standards of patient safety and quality care.
- Excellent communication skills to coordinate effectively with multidisciplinary teams and patients from varied backgrounds.
- Knowledge of Workers' Compensation law related to occupational health emergencies is a plus.
