Process Specialist
Location: Goldsboro, NC | 100% onsite | Monday - Friday | 1st shift
Position Summary
The Process Specialist is responsible for designing, developing, optimizing, and supporting manufacturing processes, production equipment, and facility systems to ensure safe, efficient, and high‑quality operations. This role partners closely with manufacturing, maintenance, quality, and engineering teams to drive continuous improvement, capacity optimization, and operational excellence in a production environment.
Key Responsibilities
- Evaluate current manufacturing processes and equipment performance to ensure alignment with production, quality, and capacity requirements; recommend and implement improvements.
- Develop and analyze alternative process and equipment solutions for assigned projects and provide data‑driven recommendations.
- Support process layout planning, including equipment placement, production flow, storage areas, and space utilization.
- Design, modify, and improve fixtures, tooling, and process equipment to enhance efficiency, safety, and product quality.
- Develop specifications for new process equipment and support sourcing activities including supplier evaluation and selection.
- Work closely with maintenance, shop personnel, and engineering teams to implement process and equipment improvements.
- Perform capacity, cycle time, and throughput analysis; identify bottlenecks and recommend sustainable improvements.
- Lead and participate in cross‑functional quality teams, including root cause analysis and corrective action initiatives.
- Provide day‑to‑day process support to production teams with a focus on schedule attainment, quality, and continuous improvement.
- Manage assigned projects, including tracking costs, timelines, and communication with key stakeholders.
- Coordinate and support training for operators and technicians on new or improved processes and equipment.
- Drive plant safety improvements in support of a zero‑harm culture and participate in safety task teams.
- Actively participate in lean manufacturing initiatives including Kaizen events, continuous improvement teams, 6S, and pull‑system audits.
- Stay current on industry trends and best practices in manufacturing processes and apply learning to operations.
Knowledge, Skills & Abilities
- Strong process analysis and structured problem‑solving skills
- Detail‑oriented with good mechanical aptitude
- Ability to guide and influence non‑technical personnel toward technical solutions
- Strong interpersonal skills with the ability to collaborate across functions
- Effective communication skills (verbal, written, and presentation)
- High level of integrity and accountability
- Proficient in Microsoft Excel, Word, and PowerPoint
- Experience with AutoCAD or SolidWorks preferred
Education & Experience
Required
- Bachelor of Science degree in Engineering or Physical Sciences
- Knowledge of manufacturing processes, tooling, maintenance methods, and material handling systems
Preferred
- 3 years of experience in a manufacturing or process engineering role
- Experience in a heavy manufacturing environment
- Self‑starter with strong initiative and problem‑solving mindset
- Ability to work independently with minimal supervision
- Basic cost analysis and technical presentation skills
