A leading energy and infrastructure contractor is seeking a highly skilled Project Field Engineer with a strong background in electrical substation construction. This role is ideal for a hands-on engineer with at least 5 years of relevant field experience who can serve as the primary technical authority on site while supporting construction teams and maintaining close coordination with centralized engineering resources.
The Project Field Engineer will provide day-to-day technical guidance to field crews, ensure compliance with engineering and design requirements, and act as the critical communication link between the construction site and the broader project engineering organization.
Responsibilities
- Serve as the primary on-site technical authority, providing direction and support to construction personnel and subcontractors
- Ensure construction activities comply with approved engineering designs, technical specifications, industry standards, and applicable codes and regulations
- Work independently and collaboratively with the construction team to resolve technical challenges as they arise
- Support the resolution of construction issues, design discrepancies, field changes, and unforeseen conditions
- Coordinate with off-site engineering and design teams when issues require escalation to ensure timely and effective resolution
- Identify potential technical, schedule, cost, and safety risks, and implement proactive mitigation measures
- Review, process, and track submittals and Requests for Information (RFIs)
- Maintain accurate field documentation, including redlines and as-built markups
- Support plan review and approval processes with local and state authorities having jurisdiction, as required
- Provide regular updates to the Project Engineering Manager and Project Manager regarding open technical items and field conditions
- Perform additional duties as assigned in support of project execution
- Adhere to internal engineering standards, safety policies, and project procedures
Qualifications
- Minimum 5 years of field experience supporting construction of large, high-voltage electrical substations
- Strong technical knowledge of electrical equipment installation, commissioning support, and associated subsystems
- Familiarity with high-, medium-, and low-voltage systems, substation layouts, grounding systems, and protective schemes
- Demonstrated ability to collaborate effectively with project teams, contractors, and client representatives while providing technical leadership
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills
- Professional Engineer (P.E.) license is preferred but not required
- Ability to perform physical tasks including lifting up to 20 pounds, bending, standing, walking, climbing, crawling, and working in both office and active construction environments
- Ability to work in varying weather conditions and on uneven terrain
Salary : $140,000 - $150,000
