Overview
A leading energy and infrastructure services provider is seeking an experienced Project Field Engineer with a focus on substation construction projects. This position is suited for a field-based civil engineer with 5 years of relevant experience supporting electrical substation construction activities.
The Project Field Engineer will serve as the on-site technical resource for construction teams, providing engineering guidance, resolving field issues, and acting as the primary coordination point between field operations and centralized project engineering resources. Success in this role requires a strong foundation in civil engineering principles, field execution, and cross-functional collaboration.
Responsibilities
- Serve as the primary on-site technical authority, providing guidance to construction crews and subcontractors
- Ensure construction activities comply with approved engineering designs, technical specifications, industry standards, and applicable construction regulations
- Work independently and as part of the construction team to identify, assess, and resolve field-related engineering issues
- Support resolution of construction challenges, design discrepancies, field changes, and unforeseen site conditions
- Coordinate with off-site engineering and design teams when issues require escalation to ensure timely technical resolution
- Identify potential technical, schedule, cost, and safety risks and implement proactive mitigation measures
- Review, process, and track submittals and Requests for Information (RFIs)
- Maintain accurate field documentation, including redlines and as-built markups
- Support plan review and approval processes with local and state authorities having jurisdiction, as required
- Provide regular status updates to the Project Engineering Manager and Project Manager regarding open technical items and field conditions
- Perform additional duties as assigned in support of overall project execution
- Comply with internal engineering standards, safety policies, and project procedures
Qualifications
- Minimum 5 years of field experience supporting construction of large, high-voltage electrical substations
- Strong technical background supporting installation of electrical equipment and associated civil/structural subsystems
- Familiarity with high-, medium-, and low-voltage installations, substation layouts, grounding systems, and site development considerations
- Proven ability to collaborate with project teams, contractors, and client representatives while demonstrating technical leadership
- Strong written and verbal communication skills
- Professional Engineer (P.E.) license preferred but not required
- Ability to perform physical tasks including lifting up to 20 pounds, bending, standing, walking, climbing, crawling, and working in both office and active construction environments
- Ability to work in varying weather conditions and on uneven terrain
