Position Summary:
The PIP Billing Supervisor at Progressive Billing is responsible for overseeing daily Personal Injury Protection (PIP) billing operations while actively supervising the PIP billing team. This role combines hands-on billing expertise with formal people-management responsibilities, ensuring accurate claim processing, timely reimbursement, staff productivity, and compliance with all applicable PIP regulations.
The PIP Billing Supervisor provides leadership, training, performance oversight, and accountability for the PIP billing staff while serving as the primary escalation point for complex billing issues and operational challenges.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
Operational & Billing Responsibilities:
- Oversee daily PIP billing operations, including claim submission, followup, payment posting, appeals, and resolution of denials.
- Review and resolve complex, highdollar, or escalated PIP claims, denials, and underpayments.
- Monitor PIP accounts receivable to ensure timely reimbursement and appropriate followup activity.
- Ensure PIP billing activities comply with applicable state regulations, payer requirements, and Progressive Billing policies.
- Collaborate with clinical staff and providers to obtain complete, accurate, and timely documentation required for billing and appeals.
- Identify trends in denials, underpayments, or workflow inefficiencies and implement corrective actions.
- Participate in audits, compliance reviews, and process improvement initiatives.
Supervisory & Leadership Responsibilities
- Provide direct supervision to PIP billing staff, including daily oversight of workload, productivity, and quality.
- Assign, prioritize, and monitor billing tasks to ensure departmental goals and deadlines are met.
- Train, coach, and mentor PIP billing staff to improve accuracy, efficiency, and regulatory compliance.
- Conduct performance evaluations, provide ongoing feedback, and support employee development plans.
- Address performance issues, including corrective action and disciplinary measures, in accordance with company policy.
- Participate in hiring, onboarding, and training of new PIP billing staff.
- Serve as the primary escalation point for staff questions, payer issues, and workflow concerns.
- Communicate staffing needs, operational challenges, and performance metrics to leadership.

- Maintain strict confidentiality of patient, payer, and company information in accordance with HIPAA and company standards.
- Ensure staff adherence to all compliance, documentation, and audit requirements.
Qualifications:
Education & Experience:
- High school diploma or equivalent required; associate or bachelor’s degree preferred.
- Minimum of 5 years of medical billing experience, with significant experience in PIP billing.
- Prior supervisory or management experience in medical billing or revenue cycle operations required.
Knowledge & Skills:
- Expertlevel knowledge of PIP regulations, fee schedules, and payerspecific rules.
- Strong leadership, coaching, and performance management skills.
- Proficiency with medical billing software and electronic health record systems.
- Excellent organizational, analytical, and problemsolving abilities.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills.
- Ability to manage multiple priorities in a fastpaced environment.

This position is classified as exempt under the Fair Labor Standards Act (FLSA) based on its primary duties. The role includes direct supervision of employees, authority over work assignments, performance evaluations, training, and disciplinary actions, as well as meaningful input into hiring and staffing decisions.
The PIP Billing Supervisor exercises independent judgment in managing personnel, overseeing operations, resolving escalated issues, and implementing workflow improvements. These responsibilities meet the criteria for the Executive exemption under applicable federal and state wage and hour laws.
