Position Overview:
The Design/Mechanical Engineer will be responsible for creating innovative, high-quality tooling designs to support our manufacturing processes. This role will involve designing weld, machining and check fixtures, brake press tooling, assembly jigs, stamping dies, and other custom tooling using SolidWorks. The ideal candidate will work closely with manufacturing, engineering, and production teams to ensure tooling designs are efficient, safe, and cost-effective.
Key Responsibilities:
- Design and develop tooling, fixtures, jigs, and dies using SolidWorks.
- Create detailed 3D models and 2D drawings with accurate dimensions, tolerances, and material specifications.
- Collaborate with manufacturing engineers, toolmakers, and production teams to ensure designs meet operational requirements.
- Provide engineering support during tooling fabrication, assembly, and validation.
- Optimize tooling designs for manufacturability, safety, and production efficiency.
- Maintain accurate design documentation and revision control.
- Assist with troubleshooting and continuous improvement of existing tooling.
- Ensure compliance with company and customer quality standards.
- Update and maintain data in PMMCO database.
- Work with Quality to ensure control plans and PFMEA requirements are integrated into the manufacturing drawings.
- Work with vendors and suppliers to evaluate new technologies and stay current on the latest tooling and fixture design innovations.

Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering, or related field (or equivalent work experience).
- 5 years of design experience
- Proficiency in SolidWorks (3D modeling, assemblies, and detailed drawings).
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office products, including Excel, Word, and Outlook.
- Experience designing tooling such as weld fixtures, brake press tooling, jigs, check fixtures and stamping dies.
- Strong understanding of manufacturing processes including welding, stamping, machining, and assembly.
- Knowledge of GD&T, material selection, and mechanical tolerances.
- Excellent problem-solving skills and attention to detail.
- Ability to work collaboratively in a fast-paced environment.
- Experience in the automotive or metal fabrication industry.
- Familiarity with metal manufacturing processes including CNC machining, stamping, press brake, welding, laser cutting and assembly.
- Understanding of lean manufacturing and continuous improvement principles.
- Ability to safely lift up to 50 lbs as needed during tooling assembly, testing, and handling.
- Familiarity with ERP (Enterprise Resource Planning) and MES (Manufacturing Execution Systems) to support manufacturing workflows and data accuracy.
