What are the responsibilities and job description for the Safety Coordinator position at PROGRESSIVE COMMUNICATIONS LLC?
Progressive Communications is seeking a Safety Coordinator to join our project team on-site in Augusta, Georgia. The ideal candidate will be responsible for maintaining the safest possible workplace and maintaining OSHA and customer requirements.. The Safety Coordinator reports to the Director of Quality and directly supports construction staff including the superintendent, project managers, foreman and crew. This position offers hands-on exposure to electrical, low-voltage, and communications systems within an active construction environment.
MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Conduct weekly safety meetings
- Submit project safety reports to the customer on time (daily, weekly and monthly)
- Conduct risk assessments, job hazard analysis, regular inspections, and audits to identify potential hazards and recommend corrective actions.
- Record and maintain employee certifications
- Ensure tool and equipment inspections are completed as required
- Provide safety training specific to job tasks
- Develop corporate procedures and plans to reduce or eliminate hazards and safety incidents and comply with customer requirements
- Enforce safety policies and procedures, including initiating and documenting corrective and disciplinary actions for safety violations in coordination with project leadership and HR as necessary
- Conduct and coordinate root cause investigations on recordable incidents, and near misses
- Participate in and take the lead in any OSHA inspection process
- Other responsibilities as assigned such as administrative support to project managers, and assisting in quality inspections
QUALIFICATIONS:
- Must possess at least a High School diploma or GED equivalency;
- Must possess a minimum of three (3) years’ experience in a safety role, preferably in the construction or electrical industry.
- OSHA-30 certification for OSHA 29 CFR 1926 Safety and Health Regulations for Construction (within last three years).
- Authorized OSHA OTI 500 Construction Outreach Trainer preferred
- CPR & First Aid Training
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills
- Proficient computer knowledge and experience utilizing MS Office (WORD, EXCEL, Outlook) and Microsoft Teams software
- Ability to communicate effectively with project stakeholders including field personnel, company management and onsite customers
- Ability to address and train groups of 25-30
- Ability to adapt to a changing work environment
- Ability to act independently with minimal daily direction
- Familiarity with the tools, machines and equipment typically used in electrical and commercial construction
- Excellent communication and teamwork skills.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:
- Must possess the manual dexterity, flexibility and visual acuity to perform inspection functions requiring walking, climbing, squatting, lifting, bending, twisting, etc.
- Must be able to lift 50 lbs. and distinguish all applicable codes, colors and symbols correctly.
- Ability to meet corporate driving requirements to drive a company vehicle
- Ability to travel outside of Augusta area to support additional corporate projects (10% or less expected travel)
