Job Summary
The Engineering Director leads and oversees the engineering team responsible for renewable energy projects, including solar PV and battery energy storage systems (BESS). This role ensures that engineering designs, planning, and project execution meet quality standards, project specifications, and regulatory requirements while maintaining project budgets and schedules. The Engineering Director collaborates cross-functionally with business development, construction, and operations teams to drive projects from development through construction and commissioning in a fast-paced EPC environment.
Key Responsibilities
- Collaborate with business development, sales, preconstruction, and procurement teams to understand project pipelines, deadlines, and budgets while establishing effective engineering execution strategies.
- Lead the engineering team in executing project strategies and meeting critical deadlines across renewable energy projects.
- Oversee due diligence efforts and communication with authorities having jurisdiction to ensure development packages comply with applicable regulations during design and construction phases.
- Manage the development of stamped construction drawings for civil, electrical, and structural components of solar PV and battery storage systems.
- Communicate directly with EPC customers, vendors, and suppliers to review drawings, conduct product due diligence, and ensure compliance with customer design standards and approved vendor lists.
- Oversee coordination with utilities for project interconnection and commissioning.
- Work closely with construction and operations teams to support permitting processes, manage customer review cycles, and drive projects toward Notice to Proceed (NTP) while maintaining schedule targets.
- Provide construction administration and project closeout support to ensure quality deliverables for field teams and end users.
- Coordinate with third-party consultants when needed for engineering services such as capacity testing, surveying, and market diligence to support project workflows.
- Develop team training sessions, seminars, and learning opportunities to strengthen knowledge of national and regional solar installation standards and regulatory requirements.
- Identify and implement process improvements in collaboration with engineering, sales, estimating, and construction teams to improve efficiency, profitability, and client experience.
- Lead and support an internal engineering team capable of completing and stamping full in-house design, ensuring efficient delivery of comprehensive project design sets for renewable energy systems.
- Perform additional duties and responsibilities as assigned by leadership based on business needs.
