Safekeeping Specialist/Commercial Loan Specialist
Location: Houston, Texas (Memorial area)
Compensation: Up to $65K benefits
We are seeking a detail-oriented Safekeeping Specialist/Commercial Loan Specialist to join our operations team. This role is responsible for supporting investors throughout the loan safekeeping and servicing process, ensuring accurate documentation, payment tracking, and communication between all parties involved.
This opportunity is ideal for someone with banking, loan servicing, investor services, or financial operations experience who is comfortable managing multiple priorities, working across systems, and handling detailed loan documentation.
Key Responsibilities
- Maintain and service investor loan safekeeping records across multiple systems
- Support the setup and tracking of loan collateral movement for investor portfolios
- Educate investors and holders on the loan safekeeping process and assist with submission of loan data
- Prepare transfer forms for loans and coordinate execution and delivery of required documentation
- Review loan files to ensure documentation meets safekeeping delivery requirements
- Submit accepted transfer paperwork for re-registration and include payment instructions as needed
- Track and record investor loan collateral activity accurately
- Work with originating lenders and the SBA Fiscal and Transfer Agent to receive, record, and reconcile loan payments
- Verify payment rates and calculations for accuracy
- Monitor monthly payments due and document reasons for any missing payments before monthly investor statements are issued
- Follow up on past due, prepaid, or defaulted loans and document responses in the servicing system
- Act as a liaison between lenders, transfer agents, and investors regarding loan modifications, approvals, or rejections based on written investor direction
- Partner with internal teams including trading, sales, accounting, and operations to support investor needs
- Assist with additional projects and ongoing departmental assignments
Areas of Problem Solving
This role will regularly work through issues involving:
- Borrower payment deferments
- Loan modifications to promissory note terms
- Borrower defaults and formal demand processes
- Borrower prepayments, including penalty calculations passed through to investors
- Documentation of approved changes to borrower terms, including creation of sample forms for lender review
Qualifications
- 1 to 2 years of experience in banking, financial services, loan servicing, investor services, or the securities industry
- Four-year college degree preferred
- Strong communication skills, including the ability to write clear letters, memos, and professional correspondence
- Strong analytical and problem-solving ability
- Self-starter who can work independently and prioritize tasks effectively
- Excellent customer service skills
- Experience with loan reconciliations
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office, including Word, Excel, and Outlook
- Ability to train and educate others on processes and procedures
Salary : $60,000 - $65,000
