Procopio is seeking a Patent Agent to join our Intellectual Property team in our Orange County or other California offices. The Patent Agent will work closely with attorneys, clients, and inventors to support the development, protection, and strategic management of intellectual property portfolios for biotechnology and pharmaceutical clients. This role offers the opportunity to work on cutting-edge innovations in the therapeutics space while providing sophisticated patent prosecution and counseling support in a collaborative, client-focused environment.
Responsibilities include preparing and prosecuting U.S. and international patent applications, drafting responses to USPTO office actions, conducting patentability, prior art, freedom-to-operate, and patent landscape analyses, and supporting strategic portfolio management. The Patent Agent will collaborate directly with clients and inventors to develop intellectual property strategies aligned with business objectives and coordinate with foreign counsel on international prosecution matters.
The ideal candidate is highly analytical, detail-oriented, and able to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment. Strong communication skills, professionalism, and a collaborative mindset are essential, as this role regularly interacts with clients, inventors, attorneys, and scientific professionals. Candidates should be comfortable working independently while contributing as a member of a team.
Candidates must possess a Ph.D. in Chemistry, Biology, Molecular Biology, or a related life sciences discipline, admission to practice before the United States Patent and Trademark Office, and a minimum of five years of patent prosecution experience in the therapeutics space. Experience with patent portfolio management, client counseling, and freedom-to-operate analyses is preferred.
Procopio offers a competitive compensation package with an anticipated salary range of approximately $150,000 to $200,000 , depending on experience and qualifications. This role is eligible for performance-based incentive compensation, bringing the total compensation range to $180,000-$240,000 annually.
