Pharmacy Production Technician

The state of Pennsylvania will require all technicians to be registered with the state by the end of June 2026. Therefore, we are seeking candidates who are already certified/license or willing to obtain certification/license once hired.

JOB SUMMARY:

The Production Technician works closely with pharmacists/lead technicians to ensure the safe and efficient preparation of compounded medications in both sterile and non-sterile environments. Technicians will be expected to be able to do tasks within both areas but may become specialized within certain areas at the direction of the lead technician. This role involves accurately compounding prescriptions, maintaining compliance with all applicable regulations, and ensuring quality control in a 503A compounding pharmacy. The technician supports pharmacy operations by handling prescription fulfillment, maintaining laboratory cleanliness, and ensuring compliance with safety protocols.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

Pharmacy Compliance:

• Adheres to all state and federal regulations, as well as internal policies and procedures, including HIPAA regulations.
• Ensures compliance with USP <795>, <797>, and <800> guidelines in non-sterile and sterile compounding practices, through initial and ongoing training and competencies.
• Participates in quality control processes and maintains proper documentation of all compounding activities.
• Follows proper safety protocols, including wearing appropriate personal protective equipment (PPE) and adhering to aseptic technique requirements.
• Maintains a clean and organized work environment, including daily, weekly, and monthly cleaning schedules.

Prescription Fulfillment:

• Reads and interprets prescriptions accurately and enters orders into the pharmacy system.
• Prepares and compounds medications following established formulations and processes under pharmacist supervision.
• Assists in preparing correct formula log sheets and ensures proper documentation for compliance.
• Accurate measures, mixes, packages, and labels compounded medications.
• Works collaboratively with pharmacists to maintain active ingredients and batch product inventories.
• Ensures proper handling of hazardous and non-hazardous drugs following OSHA and pharmacy safety standards.
• Perform aseptic techniques as dictated within the job description.
• Reports any insanitary conditions, errors, or discrepancies immediately to the production supervisor verbally and in writing.

Process Administration and Inventory Control:

• Manage inventory by maintaining adequate stock levels of ingredients, equipment, and PPE.
• Assists with batch compounding, product labeling, and verification of log entries.
• Ensures timely fulfillment and preparation of compounded prescriptions for shipping or patient pickup.
• Maintains accurate records of all compounded products and performs proper documentation of work performed.
• Engages in continuous improvement and education on compounding techniques and industry standards
