A rewarding opportunity is available for a skilled Sign Language Interpreter to provide dedicated services within a school setting in Albemarle, North Carolina. This full-time, contract role supports one elementary student and requires a professional with a strong background in educational interpreting and compliance with state licensure standards.

Key Qualifications and Experience:

  • Active North Carolina Department of Public Instruction (NCDPI) Sign Language Interpreter (SLI) license is mandatory; submission of current licensure documentation is required.
  • EIPA (Educational Interpreter Performance Assessment) score of 3.5 or higher.
  • Proficiency with ECATS (Exceptional Children Application Tracking System) for documentation and reporting.
  • Previous school-based interpreting experience is preferred.
  • Ability to work full-time hours (37.5 hours per week) from August to May, aligning with the academic calendar.

Location: Services will be performed at a middle school in Albemarle, NC, providing in-person interpreting for an elementary student within the educational environment.

Responsibilities:

  • Facilitate effective communication for the student by interpreting between American Sign Language and spoken English to support access to the curriculum.
  • Comply with all educational and state guidelines related to special education and communication support.
  • Maintain accurate records through ECATS and collaborate with teachers, educational staff, and families to ensure seamless communication.
  • Attend relevant meetings and training as required to uphold professional standards and student needs.
