Director of Billing

Summary

A large and established nonprofit behavioral health organization is seeking a Director of Billing to oversee and modernize all billing, claims, and reimbursement operations across multiple behavioral health programs. The organization provides a broad range of outpatient mental health services and is experiencing continued growth across its service lines.

This individual will take full ownership of the billing department, ensuring systems are efficient, claims are accurate, and revenue is maximized. The ideal candidate has strong healthcare billing expertise, leadership ability, and experience coordinating between finance, clinical, and IT functions.

Responsibilities

• Oversee all aspects of billing and revenue cycle operations for behavioral health programs

• Manage Medicaid and commercial insurance billing, claim submissions, and collections

• Evaluate current billing systems and implement process improvements to reduce errors and denials

• Build and supervise a small internal billing team; establish accountability and clear reporting

• Collaborate with clinical, finance, and IT departments to ensure accurate documentation and billing alignment

• Identify revenue gaps and optimize billing workflows to improve financial outcomes

• Maintain compliance with Medicaid and OMH billing standards and reporting requirements

• Generate billing and revenue performance reports for executive leadership

Requirements

• Proven leadership experience improving or managing healthcare billing operations

• Strong understanding of Medicaid, EHR platforms, and payer processes 

• Excellent organizational, analytical, and communication skills

• Hands-on, solutions-focused approach with strong attention to detail
