Nature-Based Occupational Therapist / Pediatric Therapist for Wellness Focused Program

Private School
Durham, NC Full Time
POSTED ON 7/20/2026
AVAILABLE BEFORE 9/20/2026

Do you believe that sticks can become tools, mud can become art, and a forest can become a therapy room?

Do you believe that every child has incredible potential waiting to unfold—and that relationships, play, movement, and nature can help bring it to life?

We're looking for an Occupational Therapist (or similarly trained pediatric therapist) to join our team in leading nature-based wellness groups for children ages 5 and up.

This isn't a traditional clinic position. Our work happens outdoors—where curiosity leads the way, relationships come first, and children build confidence through exploration, play, movement, and meaningful connection with the natural world.

At the heart of everything we do is a passion for human development. We believe children grow best when they feel safe, capable, connected, and free to explore. We see development not as a checklist of milestones, but as a lifelong process of discovering strengths, building resilience, and becoming who we are meant to be.

Who You Are

You are someone who...

  • Is deeply passionate about child and human development.
  • Sees possibilities where others see obstacles.
  • Is naturally curious and asks, "What if we tried this?" and “How can I make this Work For Them?”
  • Thinks creatively and isn't afraid to innovate.
  • Enjoys understanding the whole child—their strengths, challenges, relationships, and environment.
  • Brings genuine enthusiasm, joy, and optimism to your work.
  • Values collaboration and is eager to learn alongside children, families, and colleagues.
  • Is comfortable with a little mud, changing weather, and the unexpected moments that make outdoor work meaningful.
  • Believes that play, relationships, and nature are powerful catalysts for growth and development.

What You'll Do

  • Facilitate OT inspired nature-based groups for children ages 5 .
  • Design engaging experiences that promote regulation, executive functioning, social participation, sensory integration, motor development, confidence, and overall development.
  • Follow children's interests while balancing individual goals with opportunities for exploration and authentic learning.
  • Foster environments where children feel capable, connected, challenged, and supported.
  • Collaborate with families and team members to support each child's unique developmental journey.
  • Help shape and evolve our programming through fresh ideas, creative thinking, and a commitment to lifelong learning.

We're Looking For Someone Who

  • Has professional experience in Occupational Therapy (or another pediatric therapy whose training aligns with this role).
  • Has experience working with children.
  • Is fascinated by how children learn, grow, adapt, and develop.
  • Appreciates child-led, strengths-based, developmental, and relationship-centered approaches.
  • Enjoys spending significant time outdoors in all seasons.
  • Is flexible, reflective, and excited to build something innovative.

What We Value

We're less interested in finding someone who has all the answers and more interested in finding someone who loves asking thoughtful questions.

We value:

  • Human development as a lifelong process of growth and possibility.
  • Curiosity over certainty.
  • Creativity over rigid protocols.
  • Connection before compliance.
  • Play as the foundation of learning and development.
  • Innovation rooted in evidence, relationships, and nature.
  • Big-picture thinking balanced with attention to each child's unique story.
  • Joy, wonder, and a willingness to keep learning.

If you're energized by the idea of helping children grow in their strengths and challenges, build meaningful relationships, and thrive through movement, play, and experiences in nature—and if you're passionate about supporting human development in all its complexity—we'd love to hear from you.
