What are the responsibilities and job description for the Insurance Defense Attorney Needed (Freelance, Remote) position at Private Office?
We are a small New York–based premises liability / personal injury defense firm looking to bring on an experienced insurance defense attorney on an of counsel / freelance basis.
This is a flexible, ongoing overflow role - ideal for an attorney with an existing practice or other commitments who is looking for consistent, manageable additional work.
You will handle assigned cases with a high degree of autonomy, including:
- Drafting pleadings, motions, and discovery
- Managing case deadlines and progression
- Communicating as needed with our team and support staff
We provide:
- Paralegal support
- Administrative infrastructure
- Coverage for conferences, depositions, or appearances if needed (though you are welcome to handle them if you prefer)
Workload:
- Typically 5–15 hours per week
- Work can be scaled up or down depending on your availability
Requirements:
- Minimum 5 years of insurance defense experience
- Strong familiarity with New York civil practice and procedures
- Experience with:
- Discovery and motion practice
- Liability analysis and defense strategy
- Ability to work independently and efficiently
Strongly preferred:
- Experience with litigation budgets
- Deposition and/or trial experience
- NY-based attorney
Additional Notes:
- This is a low-bureaucracy, practical working relationship
- No business development or client acquisition required
- We are looking for someone reliable who can integrate into a small team and consistently handle assigned work
