What are the responsibilities and job description for the Licensed Electrician for Solar Install position at Private Household?
Project Summary
Homeowner seeking a licensed, solar-experienced electrician to lead the electrical scope of a residential rooftop solar PV install and ensure it is permittable/inspected under Alameda County's residential rooftop PV process. Homeowner can purchase equipment/materials and may DIY some non-electrical labor with a handy friend; electrician must be comfortable working in a homeowner-assisted install model while maintaining safety and code compliance.
Scope of Work (Responsibilities)
Permitting / Plans / Compliance
- Review site constraints (roof type, array location, service panel/subpanels, grounding, conduit routes).
- Provide or approve the required documents for permit submittal (e.g., one-line diagram, equipment cut sheets list, labeling plan, load calcs as needed).
- Pull permit as contractor of record or guide owner-builder permit process (your preference—please specify).
- Coordinate permit corrections/revisions if required.
Electrical Installation Commissioning
- Install/oversee all required PV electrical components and wiring:
- Conduit runs, wire pulls, terminations, grounding/bonding
- Inverter/microinverters/optimizers (if applicable) and required rapid shutdown components
- AC disconnects, breakers, combiner equipment as required
- All code-required labeling
- Perform final interconnection/tie-in at the main service equipment.
- Commission and test system, verify monitoring/production and safety operation.
Inspection Utility
- Schedule and pass final inspections; address punch-list items.
- Support PG&E interconnection / PTO process (application paperwork, resubmits, commissioning confirmation).
Optional (Nice-to-have)
- Willing to advise on equipment selection for best inspection success and commissioning (e.g., recommended inverter approach for our roof/shade).
- Experience working with homeowner-supplied materials and documenting required specs clearly.
Required Qualifications
- Active CA Contractor License: C-10 (preferred) or C-46 (acceptable). Provide license # for verification.
- Demonstrated experience with residential rooftop solar PV installs and commissioning.
- Familiarity with PG&E interconnection process (Rule 21 / PTO workflows).
- Ability to work safely on/around roofs and attics as needed.
- Professional communication and ability to define scope clearly (what you do vs what homeowner can do).
- Insurance: general liability; workers' comp if you have employees (or proof of exemption if applicable).
Preferred Qualifications
- NABCEP certification (nice-to-have)
- Experience with Alameda County / East Bay AHJ inspections
- Strong troubleshooting skills for PV faults/commissioning issues
