What are the responsibilities and job description for the Contract Attorney position at Private family?
Federal Discrimination Attorney (Hybrid – Litigation Required)
Engagement Type: Independent Contractor | Case-Based / Contingency Compensation | Confidential Private Engagement
Overview:
A private family seeks an experienced federal discrimination attorney to represent them. The case arises under federal law and has completed state administrative review. The engagement is hybrid, with the majority of work performed remotely and in-person attendance required for federal court proceedings as necessary.
The client requires counsel capable of managing federal litigation, discovery, and subpoena practice, including compelling internal communications not obtained during administrative review. Due to the sensitivity of the matter and the private nature of the client, execution of a Non-Disclosure Agreement (NDA) is required prior to disclosure of identifying information or documents.
Contract may lead to full-time position.
Scope of Representation:
Representation will include evaluation and prosecution of claims involving wrongful termination following an ADA accommodation request; failure to engage in the interactive process; retaliation; and disparate treatment based on race, including comparator analysis. Responsibilities include drafting and filing federal pleadings and motions; managing discovery and subpoenaing records, including internal emails; conducting or participating in hearings, conferences, and settlement negotiations; and representing the client through resolution, whether by settlement, judgment, or trial.
There is potential to extend the engagement to include additional federal ADA matters, including housing-related discrimination, subject to performance and mutual agreement.
Work Structure:
Remote-first engagement for research, drafting, strategy, and communications. In-person attendance required for federal court appearances as dictated by case needs and court schedule. Flexible schedule based on litigation deadlines.
Compensation:
Compensation is case-based, task-based and performance-oriented. An additional contingency or success-based fee of up to 50 percent of recovery may apply upon favorable resolution, subject to applicable rules of professional responsibility. All terms will be memorialized in a written engagement agreement.
Required Qualifications:
Juris Doctor (JD) from an accredited law school. Active licensure and good standing in the appropriate jurisdiction(s). Admission to, or eligibility for admission to, federal court. Demonstrated experience litigating federal employment discrimination cases, including ADA and retaliation claims. Experience with discovery, subpoenas, and internal employer communications is required. Ability to work independently, exercise sound judgment, and handle sensitive matters with discretion and professionalism.
Confidentiality:
This engagement involves non-public legal matters for a private family. A comprehensive NDA is required before client identity, factual background, or documentation is disclosed. No public attribution or disclosure is permitted.
Submission:
Interested counsel may submit a brief summary of relevant experience, jurisdictions of licensure and federal admissions, and disclosure of any potential conflicts of interest. Additional information will be provided following execution of an NDA.
