JOB TITLE: Corporate Technical Trainer
PRIMARY FUNCTIONS:
Under the direction of the Corporate Operations Manager(s) and multiple Project Managers the Corporate trainer shall be responsible for the following, included but not limited to:
- Provide competent and responsible direction of Contractor staff in support of specific contract requirements within multiple facilities/vivariums. This will require close working relationships with contract trainers and managers.
- Provide hands-on instruction, knowledge sharing and training for all assigned contract technical, animal husbandry, and vivarium operation requirements for all laboratory animal species (rodents, guinea pigs, rabbits and non-human primates specifically and other various laboratory animal species).
- Ability to train and provide instruction for veterinary medicine and technical procedures for surgery, pre and post-surgery care, anesthesia monitoring, wound care, triage, topical treatments, pain management, body condition scoring, general animal behavior observations and all other SOP related veterinary medicine procedures.
- Provide general supervision and control of staff resources, accomplishment of performance goals, submittal of contract deliverables, compliance with facility SOP’s, assist with the maintenance of a health and safety program.
- Assist with and develop training classes and special topic presentations as needed or assigned.
- Periodically review training records of staff for multiple departments. Assist with the development and revision/update of training records for all contract positions.
- Assist the Corporate Training Coordinator and contract Facility Trainers with annual Training Audit reviews of contract specific training programs for multiple facilities.
- Coordinate and conduct monthly training meetings with all contract trainers and/or supervisors to implement company training goals and expectations. This task will require knowledge of all company training programs at specific contracts.
- Provide ongoing technical training to include presentations, safety procedures and contract-related requirements.
- Provide training for new hire orientation, initial job-specific tasks, remedial training as needed and AALAS certification classes.
- Review training received by contract staff and monitor training reports from contract supervisors.
- Assure that all employees maintain their technical competence by providing annual, and as needed, proficiency assessments.
- Conduct Quality Assurance inspections of multiple contract sites. Prepare inspection findings into reports for contract site. Analyze and report on quality assurance trends and monitor implemented preventative measures.
- May interview potential applicants for open positions.
- Work with Project Managers and Corporate Operations Manager(s) with priority contract related initiatives.
- Work with subordinate employees to ensure that all work is performed according to each contract’s Statement of Work.
- Assist in the SOP development and review process.
- Understands and follows all approved SOP’s and Quality Assurance Standards for animal care.
- Familiar with Safety Data Sheets (SDS) for chemicals used in the work area.
- Prepares and submits required training reports, charts, logs, and inventories as requested by the Corporate Training Coordinator and contract Project Managers.
- Will be responsible to obtain continuing education units to stay abreast on new and developing information concerning the laboratory animal field.
- All other duties as required.
SKILLS/KNOWLEDGE:
- Minimum of 6-8 years working in an animal research environment with an emphasis on training, supervision, quality control, and veterinary technical procedures.
- Experience working with NHPs, rodents and other various regulated species.
- Ideally a B.S. or A.S degree in biology, animal science or related field and
- American Association for Laboratory Animal Science (AALAS) certification at the Laboratory Animal Technologist (LATG) level, CMAR preferred.
- Ability to work independently in a complex program and interact with all levels of the organization.
- Ability to conduct class instruction to individuals and large groups.
- Demonstrated and proven ability to perform common animal facility veterinary technical skills and surgical support procedures.
- Comprehension of veterinary terminology for laboratory animals.
- Must have a business command of the English language, both written and spoken.
- Proven ability to develop and maintain PowerPoint, Excel, and other related software programs.
