Overview
We are seeking a detail-oriented and organized Billing Specialist to join our team. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in medical billing and coding, with a comprehensive understanding of medical terminology and coding systems. As a Billing Specialist, you will play a vital role in ensuring accurate and timely billing for services rendered at our clinic. You’ll work closely with both patients and healthcare providers to process insurance claims, handle billing inquiries, and resolve discrepancies. This position requires a high level of accuracy, organization, and communication skills.
Responsibilities
- Accurately process and submit insurance claims for medical services
- Strong communication skills, able to effectively communicate with patients, insurance companies, and coworkers
- Review patient accounts for billing errors or discrepancies
- Communicate with insurance companies to follow up on unpaid claims or claim denials
- Comfortable spending a great deal of time on the phone
- Maintain detailed records of all billing activity
- Assist patients with billing inquiries and provide clear, helpful explanations of charges
- Work closely with the clinic's administrative team to resolve billing issues
- Ensure compliance with healthcare regulations and confidentiality standards (HIPAA)
- Stay updated on changes in medical billing regulations and coding practices.
- Prepare reports related to billing activities and account statuses as needed.

Skills
- Familiarity with ICD-9, ICD-10, DRG coding systems, and medical collection processes.
- Knowledge of healthcare billing codes, insurance processes, and medical terminology
- Familiarity with electronic medical records (EMR)
- Strong organizational skills and attention to detail
- Excellent communication skills (both written and verbal)
- Ability to handle sensitive information with professionalism and discretion
- High school diploma or equivalent (Associates degree in Healthcare Administration or related field is a plus)
- Certification in Medical Billing and Coding (CPC, CBCS, etc.) is preferred, but not required
