Payroll & Compliance Coordinator
Location: Edison, NJ
Schedule: Fully onsite, 5 days per week
Position Summary
We are partnering on a confidential search for a Payroll & Compliance Coordinator to support a fast-paced, high-volume operation with a unionized workforce. This individual will play a key role in ensuring accurate payroll processing, maintaining labor compliance, and helping resolve timekeeping and pay-related issues in a timely manner. The ideal candidate is organized, detail-oriented, and comfortable operating in an environment where priorities can shift based on business demands.
Key Responsibilities
- Oversee payroll-related activities for a large, hourly employee population in a unionized setting
- Ensure payroll is processed accurately and in compliance with applicable labor regulations and collective bargaining requirements
- Investigate and resolve payroll discrepancies, missed punches, and employee pay inquiries in a timely manner
- Prepare payroll, labor cost, and compliance-related reports for leadership, finance, and HR
- Partner with internal management teams and labor representatives to address payroll and workforce-related issues
- Maintain organized and accurate documentation for union reporting, audits, and internal reviews
- Support payroll and labor compliance efforts during high-volume or operationally demanding periods
- Serve as a point of contact for payroll audits, reporting reviews, and compliance follow-up
- Help ensure all payroll, reporting, and HR-related deadlines are met consistently
Qualifications
- 3–5 years of payroll experience, ideally within hospitality, food & beverage, entertainment, events, or other high-volume environments
- Experience working with timekeeping systems and payroll platforms such as ADP or Paychex
- Strong understanding of wage and hour laws, with New York and New Jersey exposure preferred
- Familiarity with union payroll environments and labor compliance requirements strongly preferred
- High level of accuracy, discretion, and attention to detail when handling sensitive information
- Ability to work in a fast-paced setting and adapt to changing operational needs, including nontraditional schedules when required
- Solid understanding of Fair Workweek regulations, particularly in New York is required
- Must be able to perform the essential functions of the role with or without reasonable accommodation
