The Department of Development Services promotes staff and customers working in a partnership through effective and efficient development processes to ensure compliance with building regulations. We are looking for customer-service-minded individuals for our Inspections Branch to provide high-quality service to our customers while embracing their essential role as “first preventers.” This position offers paid training and County-sponsored educational opportunities!
About This Role:
- Perform residential and commercial construction inspections.
- Conduct project research.
- Write inspection reports.
- Perform data entry into the EnerGov Permitting System.
- Assist customers in navigating the different programs required for permitting and inspecting construction-related projects.
- Brainstorm different approaches to resolve customer issues.
Minimum Requirements: High school diploma or G.E.D. and 3 years of related experience.
Preferences:
- 3 years of construction and/or building code experience.
- Experience in inspecting residential and/or commercial structures to applicable code standards.
- Certified in at least one building trade.
- Good to above average computer skills.
- Working knowledge of and the ability to interpret applicable codes.
- Ability to interpret plans, specifications and/or blueprints.
- Valid Driver’s License and ability to pass a DMV check.
Work Schedule:
This position works a standard Monday-Friday schedule, working 37.5 hours per week. This position does not offer telework.
Special Requirements:
- Successful completion of a DMV Check.
- Successful completion of a Pre-Employment Physical.
- Must become certified by the Virginia Department of Housing and Community Development as a Technical Assistant to the Building Official within 18 months of employment and certified as a Virginia Residential Combination Inspector within 36 months of employment.
Starting Salary Range: $31.18-$38.61 per hour
