What are the responsibilities and job description for the CS Therapist II position at Prince William County Government?

Prince William County Community Services is seeking a dedicated Therapist II (Clinical Services Caseworker) to join the Recovery Support Services (RSS) DORM Treatment Program at the Prince William–Manassas Regional Adult Detention Center. The DORM program is a structured substance use treatment program serving incarcerated individuals with long histories of substance use and co-occurring behavioral health needs. This position will provide individual and group counseling within a therapeutic, recovery-oriented environment at the ADC. There will also be close collaboration with criminal justice and community partners (including probation and pre-trial services, the courts, and the Public Defender’s Office) to provide treatment recommendations and support re-entry planning that promotes continuity of care upon release.

The Recovery Support Services continuum includes intensive substance use treatment within the Adult Detention Center and specialized outpatient services for justice-involved individuals in the community. The program also supports Medication-Assisted Treatment (MAT) services at the ADC through motivational counseling and re-entry coordination and manages community-based MAT/OBAT clinics across Prince William County. This role offers the opportunity to work as part of a multidisciplinary team committed to recovery-oriented, evidence-based care.

This position qualifies for a hiring bonus of $5,000. This bonus will be paid in two equal installments. The first installment of $2,500 will be paid after you have completed 90 days of employment. The final $2,500 installment will be disbursed upon successful completion of the probationary period.

About This Role: 

  • Provides a comprehensive array of clinical services for criminal justice-involved clients, including assessments and individual and group treatment
  • Writes and implements treatment plans
  • Maintains records according to the agency's policies and procedures
  • Implements Evidence-Based Practices faithfully according to the guidance in the material
  • Provides consultation to families, professionals, and community agencies regarding substance use and co-occurring issues
  • Coordinates client aftercare with the other CS staff, peer support, as well as other community-based services, and Probation
  • Coordinates client care and makes appropriate referrals for medication-assisted treatment and/or psychiatric services
  • Proactively provides client services to assist them in avoiding relapse and recidivism and progressing toward treatment goals
  • Prepares letters for court documenting treatment recommendations and client progress in the program
  • Provides education and recovery resources to clients
  • Attends and participates in staff meetings and professional development activities
  • Attends/completes annual trainings as required

Minimum Requirements:

  • Master’s degree in social work, counseling, or related behavioral science field.
  • Must currently possess an LCSW or LPC; or be eligible to obtain an LCSW or LPC in the Commonwealth of Virginia within 2 years of hire. 
  • 1 year of related experience providing services to substance-using and co-occurring adults. 

Preferences: 

  • Be licensed for independent practice
  • Experience working within the criminal justice system
  • Have direct experience and knowledge of medication-assisted treatment options and community-based recovery resources.        
  • Bi-lingual English/ Spanish is preferred

Special Requirements (if applicable): 

Possession of a valid driver's license;
 Must pass DMV record check;
 Must pass TB Test;
 Certification in First Aid and Cardiac Pulmonary Resuscitation, as required.
 Offer of employment is contingent upon the candidate passing a fingerprinted based national criminal history record check.

Child Protective Services Requirements:  Effective 1999, mandated by the Department of Behavioral Health and Developmental Services 12VA35-105-400 rules and Regulations for Licensing Providers by the Department of Behavioral Health and Development Services related to Criminal Registry Checks, a search of the registry of founded complaints of child abuse and neglected maintained by the Department of Social Services

Work Schedule: 

FLSA Exempt, Monday – Friday 8AM -5PM with some flexibility, will require at least 2 evenings a week for group work.

Starting Salary Range: $76,069.50 - $104,676.00
