The Prince George’s County Police Department is currently seeking qualified applicants to fill various General Clerk 4, grade P12 positions in the Bureau of Patrol.
ROTATING SHIFTS (DAYS, EVENING AND MIDNIGHTS, HOLIDAYS & WEEKENDS)
About the Position
This is a senior level advanced clerical work. Incumbents in this class are responsible for performing the more complex and advanced clerical assignments. Responsibilities may include leading and training subordinate clerical personnel in the performance of a variety of clerical functions within a unit or a division. This class is distinguished from the General Clerk III class by the lead work responsibilities and the responsibility for monitoring operational effectiveness in some departments or the technical aspects of the work in other departments. Work is performed independently under the general supervision of a designated supervisor and is evaluated in terms of quality, quantity, completeness, and accuracy. Some position assignments will require the incumbents to *work rotating shifts.

- Maintains a courteous, professional, business-like attitude when dealing with the public by telephone or in person.
- Assists citizens in the completion of forms, i.e., Accident Reports, Bicycle Registration, Complaints concerning Police Practices, Vehicle Releases, etc.
- Works in partnership with internal and external customers to assist in finding resolutions to immediate problems.
- Demonstrates working knowledge of Departmental rules and Procedures, District SOPs, and State and County laws in order to provide correct information/answers to inquiries.
- Maintains knowledge of Departmental organization and District Personnel so accurate referrals are made to the appropriate personnel/unit.
- Screens and directs all incoming calls to the appropriate person or location and accurately records and disseminates incoming messages for station personnel. Maintains patience, composure, and displays compassion for citizens who contact or approach them.

- Assists citizens with retrieving impounded vehicles by verifying ownership and providing/explaining Vehicle Release Letters.
- Acts as the public’s liaison in coordinating government services and resources for resolving issues.
- Acts as an information resource person for all individuals, both by telephone and in person.
- Receives and sends/disseminates information to appropriate personnel/locations using the electronic mail system.
- Performs tasks and duties willingly and cooperatively that may not be specifically listed in position description but are within the general occupational category and responsibility level typically associated with the employee's class of work.

Minimum Qualifications
Candidates must meet all minimum qualifications listed below to be eligible for additional consideration:
- Must have experience at the General Clerk III level at the length of one (1) year.
- Six (6) months of experience performing diverse clerical tasks.
- One (1) year of education above the high school level which includes coursework in computer data entry, secretarial subjects or business administration.

Conditions of Employment: Upon selection, the candidate must (where applicable):
- Possess and maintain a valid driver's license.
- Be willing to work a rotating shift consisting of days/evenings/midnights/weekends/holidays.
- Meet all training and performance standards and demonstrate proficiency as required by the agency.
- Wear and use agency protective apparel and equipment in the performance of their assigned duties.
- Successfully pass preemployment checks which may include reference checks, background investigations, and drug screenings.
- Be willing and able to serve as an essential employee. Essential employees are expected to report during standard or non-standard hours as operations necessitate, or during emergencies. Essential employees are expected to report or remain at work when other County employees are granted Administrative Leave.

The incumbent must meet and maintain the training standards set forth by the Prince George’s County Police Department. The incumbent shall not disseminate information, administrative or operational, unless expressly authorized.
