What are the responsibilities and job description for the Licensed Psychologist position at Prince George's County, Maryland?
The Prince George’s County Office of the Sheriff is currently seeking qualified applicants to fill a skilled Psychologist position, grade G31, in the Bureau of Administration/Personnel & Wellness Services division. Must have a PhD in Psychology and be licensed in the state of Maryland, or eligible for a license.
Minimum Qualifications:
Candidates must meet all minimum qualifications listed below to be eligible for additional consideration:
- Graduation from an accredited college or university with a Doctorate in Psychology (PhD)
- Three (3) years of post-doctoral experience in clinical therapeutic practice, including diagnostic and psychological testing service experience, clinical assessment, counseling, and crisis intervention.
- Must be licensed as a Psychologist by the Maryland State Board of Examiners of Psychologists or eligible for licensure through examination reciprocity as determined by the Board, at the time of application. Licensure must be obtained prior to appointment and maintained throughout employment.
Any equivalent combination of relevant training, education and experience may also be accepted.
Preferred Qualifications:
- At least one (1) year of this experience in a public safety, law enforcement, corrections, or other high-stress occupational setting is preferred.
- Prior law enforcement and/or government experience.

Conditions of Employment: Upon selection, the candidate must:
- Meet minimum qualifications and pass an administered Administrative Aide exam. Applicants who have previously taken the exam on or after 8/1/2024, and passed, will not be required to re-test; instead, previously test scores will be used to receive the passing disposition.
- Meet all training and performance standards and demonstrate proficiency as required by the agency and must successfully pass the proficiency test administered.
- Wear and use agency protective apparel and equipment in the performance of their assigned duties, if applicable.
- Be in good physical condition.
- Be available to work on a rotating, on-call schedule 24 hours a day/seven days a week in response to urgent public safety needs
- Successfully pass preemployment checks which may include reference checks, background investigations, motor vehicle background check, and medical examination, including drug screening and random drug and alcohol tests, where applicable. Background investigation will be conducted by Prince Georges’ County Office of Human Resources Management, Public Safety Investigations Division.
- Be willing and able to serve as an essential employee. Essential employees are expected to report during standard or non-standard hours as operations necessitate, or during emergencies. Essential employees are expected to report or remain at work when other County employees are granted Administrative Leave.
