The Prince George’s County Health Department is currently seeking qualified applicants to fill a Community Developer III grade A24 position, in the Behavioral Health Division.

About The Position

This is a senior level professional position, whereby the incumbent performs a variety of assignments in programmatic areas, coordinates civic/group activities, expands/nurtures strategic partnership opportunities to strengthen, increase/expand outreach activities, educate the community on ways to prevent and manage chronic disease, and may lead a group of subordinates. The incumbent is supervised and evaluated by a higher-level Community Developer in accordance with Departmental rules, policies, and procedures.

The Prince George's County Health Department's (PGCHD) vision is that all Prince Georgians are their healthiest at every age and every stage. Their mission is to lead, engage, and empower our community to work collaboratively towards disease prevention, health equity, and total well-being. The PGCHD works to protect and support the public’s health through numerous services that range from restaurant inspections and disease tracking to care coordination and health promotion. The department is composed of four divisions: Behavioral Health Services, Environmental Health and Disease Control, Family Health Services, and Health and Wellness, supported by the Office of Administration, Office of Human Resources and the Office of the Health Officer. The mandate of the department has been, and will remain, broad. This plan emphasizes improving core functions and operations, including protecting the public from health threats, implementing strategies to support healthy living, and maintaining a focus on vulnerable populations, while developing efficient internal processes to support these activities.

Examples of Work

  • Coordinates, develops, and implements community partnerships/outreach activities for civic groups, faith-based organizations, and individuals to address chronic disease in the County.
  • Develops and implements programs to help communities/clients prevent and manage chronic disease with measurable results.
  • Develops program models to identify goals and objectives.
  • Conducts presentations, workshops, and coordinates exhibits to support community outreach and educational activities.
  • Collects and analyzes data to monitor program outreach, goals/objectives.
  • Expands and nurtures strategic partnership opportunities to facilitate scope and reach of programs.
  • Represents the Department/Division at meetings.
  • Performs other tasks and duties assigned, which may not be specifically listed in the position description; however, are within the general occupational category and responsibility level typically associated with the employee's class of work.

Qualifications

Minimum Qualifications

  • Bachelor's Degree from an accredited college or university in Business or Public Administration, Social Service, Sociology, Psychology, or a closely related field.
  • Two (2) years of responsible community development supervisory work.
  • Must possess and maintain a valid Class C driver's license.

Any equivalent combination of relevant training, education and experience may also be considered.

Please note there is no equivalency for the required supervisory experience.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Master's degree from an accredited college or university in Public Health, Social Services, Education, or related field; or a Community Health Education Specialist (CHES) certification.
  • Three (3) years of responsible experience doing community development work.
  • Diabetes Prevention Lifestyle Coach.
  • Strong public speaking and communication skills.
