What are the responsibilities and job description for the Instruction Librarian Faculty position at Prince George's Community College?

Oversee and participate in the development, management, marketing, delivery, and assessment of information literacy instruction. Support faculty with curriculum alignment relating to Open Educational Resources (OER). Provide reference services and act as a subject liaison as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE
  • Master’s degree in library/information science from an ALA-accredited program required.
  • Minimum of 1 year of experience in an academic library.
  • Experience implementing high-impact teaching practices preferred.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES
  • Oversee the development, teaching, and assessment of the college’s information literacy program across multimodal environments and at various college locations, including one-shot visits to classes and in-person or online presentations.
  • Investigate, learn, and infuse new technologies and instructional techniques into face-to-face and online instruction, including the incorporation of and support for high-impact teaching practices.
  • Collaborate with faculty to identify the information needs of students and develop curriculum using appropriate library resources.
  • Develop, design, implement and maintain general and course-specific instructional materials including research guides, widgets, videos, modules, etc.
  • Work with the Digital Services Librarian for implementation of online instructional content.
  • Support and train library faculty in new techniques and the use of instructional technologies.
  • Work collaboratively to guide faculty in the discovery, creation, dissemination, identification, adoption, and assessment of open and affordable Open Educational Resources (OER) which align with curriculum requirements.
  • Advise faculty on copyright and open licensing issues as they pertain to OER creation and adaptations.
  • Lead in the assessment of student learning outcomes.
  • Provide reference assistance through telephone, email, online chat, and in-person at the reference desk during regularly assigned hours.
  • Teach research methods, strategies and techniques using print and electronic resources through multimodal user workshops aimed at student and/or faculty audiences.
  • Act as subject liaison with faculty of assigned departments.
  • Serve on library and college-wide committees in the promotion of information literacy instruction and OER awareness.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

  • Ability to teach in non-traditional formats (online, remote, hybrid) and settings (off-campus, weekends, evenings and accelerated).
  • Ability to teach core introductory courses and general education courses in discipline
  • Familiarity with foundational undergraduate coursework including writing, reading, digital technology, and communication.
  • Knowledge of current trends in academic librarianship related to research and instruction.
  • Knowledge of the ACRL Framework for Information Literacy for Higher Education.
  • Knowledge of Open Educational Resources, creative commons licensing, fair use, and copyright.

Job Requirements
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS
Must have the use of sensory skills in order to effectively communicate and interact with other employees and the public through the use of the telephone and personal contact as normally defined by the ability to see, read, talk, hear, handle, or feel objects and controls. Physical capability to effectively use and operate various items of office related equipment, such as, but not limited to a, personal computer, calculator, copier, and fax machine. Some climbing, stooping, kneeling, crouching, reaching, standing, walking, pushing, pulling, lifting, grasping, and repetitive motions maybe required. Occasionally the ability to physically move and lift materials 5-25 pounds maybe required.

OTHER REQUIREMENTS
  • Ability to communicate effectively in spoken and written standard English.
  • As required by the 1986 Immigration Act, be prepared to present acceptable documentation showing your identity and that you are a U.S. citizen or an alien who is authorized to work.
  • A background investigation will be conducted prior to the offer of employment. A signed authorization for the release of personal information will be required if selected for an interview.
