Job Title: Survey Helper
Reports To: Party Chief / Survey Crew Lead
Department: Survey Division
Position Summary
The Survey Helper supports survey crews in the field by assisting with setup, operation, and breakdown of surveying equipment, handling tools and materials, and performing basic measurements under direction. This role is critical to keeping survey operations safe, efficient, and accurate.
Key Responsibilities
- Equipment Handling
- Transport, set up, and take down survey instruments (tripods, total stations, GPS units, levels, rods, prisms).
- Keep tools and equipment clean, organized, and in working condition.
- Field Assistance
- Hold and operate level rods, prisms, or measuring tapes as directed.
- Mark points, stakes, or reference lines using paint, flags, or stakes.
- Clear brush, debris, or obstructions from survey lines.
- Data & Measurement Support
- Record basic measurements or notes under crew leader’s instruction.
- Assist with verifying reference points and benchmarks.
- Safety & Site Compliance
- Follow all company and site-specific safety policies.
- Wear required PPE and maintain safe practices around active construction areas.
- Logistics & Coordination
- Help load/unload vehicles and transport materials to survey locations.
- Maintain communication with crew leader for daily task priorities.
Skills & Requirements
- Education: High school diploma or equivalent (technical or vocational training a plus).
- Experience: No prior surveying experience required, but construction fieldwork is preferred.
- Physical Requirements: Ability to lift 50 lbs, walk long distances, and work outdoors in varying weather and terrain.
- Skills: Basic math, ability to read and follow instructions, good teamwork and communication skills.
- Other: Valid driver’s license preferred; willingness to travel between job sites.
