Job Title: Medical Record Technician – Release of Information (ROI)
Specialty: Health Information Management (HIM) – Release of Information / Privacy Compliance
Location: 1901 Veterans Memorial Dr BLDG 208, RM 119, Temple, TX 76504
Site: Central Texas Veterans Health Care System (CTXVHCS)
Duration: Initial 4-month contract with the possibility of a 4-month extension
Shift Schedule: M-F, Day shift
How many shifts needed per month: Approximately 20–22 shifts per month per FTE
Credentialing / Onboarding Time: 6 weeks to 8 weeks
Certifications (Preferred, Not Mandatory)

- RHIT or RHIA
- Other HIM-related certifications considered a plus
- Minimum 2 years of experience in Release of Information (ROI), medical records management, or healthcare privacy operations
- Strong knowledge of HIPAA, Privacy Act, and VA disclosure regulations
- Experience processing third-party medical record requests
- High attention to detail and documentation accuracy
- Strong customer service and communication skills
- Ability to manage high-volume workloads under strict deadlines
- Familiarity with EHR systems and document management tools
- Process medical record requests from Veterans, providers, attorneys, and government agencies
- Verify authorization and eligibility for release of protected health information (PHI)
- Ensure all disclosures comply with HIPAA and VA privacy policies
- Prepare, track, and document all released records
- Maintain accurate logs of disclosures
- Respond to inquiries regarding record requests in a timely and professional manner
- Safeguard confidential and sensitive patient information at all times
