Prime Machine is looking for a CNC Programmer / Swing Shift Shop Lead to lead our second-shift operations while remaining heavily involved in programming, setup planning, and machining support.

This is not a desk job.

This is a hands-on leadership role for someone who thrives on solving tough manufacturing challenges, mentoring machinists, and helping deliver critical equipment to customers in mining, power generation, defense, aerospace, and heavy industry.

You'll help lead projects that involve:

• Large and small precision-machined components
• Emergency breakdown repairs
• Reverse engineering and custom manufacturing
• Critical tolerance work
• Complex 4-axis and 5-axis machining
• One-of-a-kind projects requiring creativity and expertise

What You'll DoProgramming & Technical Leadership

• Create and optimize CNC programs using Mastercam
• Develop machining strategies for complex jobs
• Support setup development and tooling selection
• Troubleshoot programming and machining issues
• Assist with quoting and planning difficult manufacturing projects
• Improve cycle times and machining efficiencies

Shop Leadership

• Lead a team of 6–8 machinists during swing shift
• Coordinate daily production priorities
• Review work instructions, setups, tooling, and job readiness
• Communicate project status with management and project managers
• Drive accountability, productivity, and craftsmanship

Hands-On Manufacturing

• Operate CNC mills and lathes as needed
• Support machinists with complex setups and problem-solving
• Provide technical guidance on machining methods and best practices
• Assist with critical jobs when additional expertise is required

Quality & Safety

• Ensure all work meets Prime Machine quality standards
• Verify completion of inspection reports and documentation
• Promote safe work practices and a strong safety culture
• Help identify and eliminate production and safety risks

Team Development

• Train and mentor machinists
• Develop setup, programming, and machining capabilities throughout the team
• Help identify future leaders within the organization
• Foster a culture of accountability, teamwork, and continuous improvement

What We're Looking ForRequired

• Advanced CNC machining experience
• Strong CNC programming experience
• Ability to perform and troubleshoot complex setups
• Strong blueprint reading and GD&T knowledge
• Experience working with tight-tolerance precision components
• Excellent problem-solving skills
• Strong communication and leadership abilities

Preferred

• Mastercam experience
• 4-axis and 5-axis programming experience
• Leadership, lead machinist, foreman, or supervisory experience
• Experience with large industrial components
• Experience mentoring and training machinists
